On CC, I notice that people generally say to take the ACT 3 times or until you get a high score. I have taken the ACT 3 times, once my freshman year and twice my junior year (this year)? Would it be a big deal if I took it one more time?

Not at all. you can take it up to 12 times. You control the scores. Unless a college asks to see ALL scores, you can send your best. I am applying to several schools that super score, so I may have to send several.

I know people who have taken the ACT 6 times to get the score for scholarship money they need.

The question is not how many times or should you take one more time. The question is how to make it the last attempt. It does not make sense to keep taking the test. What you need to do is a thorough preparation until you reach a plateau or target score and then take it as your last attempt. Just by retaking the test would not increase your score after the second test.

I agree with the previous poster. You should set a target score and once you reach it just be done with it. There’s no point to needlessly stress yourself out by retaking the test so many times–it will take away your energy from your standard academics and extracurriculars that will help you get into college.

Amen @billcsho!. I need a 30 and I am working hard to make the April test my last one!

My D did a lot of practice test until she reached a plateau score. Then she took the state mandated ACT as her first attempt. She got exactly the same score as practice and be done with it in one attempt that is free.

Also, colleges will see that you took it during your early high school years. Chances are, you were just taking it for practice(?) and colleges will notice that.

does it benefit that i show improvement in my score on all of the tests?
