What are you being told as to how many times to take the New Sat and when? If someone only takes it once, in March, before they have a good handle on the results of the new test, would colleges count grades, gpa, rank more?

bump......

umm... just do well the first time?

If you get a good score in March, you might just take it once. Otherwise, you could take it in June and/or October.

My S is planning on one sitting: October. But he has some good scores already on the old SAT to serve as a "safety net." Most of his schools will use the highest of old and new scores.

I can't recall any advice from GC's or others that differentiate betw the new and old test, as far as how many times to take it. I would guess that many kids might try the March edition, and then retake if they need a higher score for the schools to which they aspire. Of course, for this year's juniors, spring time = No Child Left Untested...let's see, we'll have state standardized testing, AP test(s), SAT II tests, and, of course, new SAT I, and, for those not completely burned out, the ACT + Writing. Oh, yeah, I forgot spring finals. Yikes!

Just register for it twice and then if the score is good can't you cancel the other testing? I'm taking it in March and maybe May, then SATIIs in June (only Chem if I do well on IIC and Writing in January). APs are also in May, probably six of those. I don't think I'll take the new ACT + Writing. I'm a firm believer in the fact that your score won't change significantly after the first two or three times you've taken it. I am just going to take a few prep tests and then concentrate on test day. That's all you can do.

state standardized testing? pardon if i'm being cocky, but in florida we have FCAT up until 10th grade, and if u fail those, you ARE illiterate/incompetant... or from another country and speak a different language, but that's besides the point...

Yeah, the state testing ends usually after 9th or 10th grade for me, too. The only things I have to take this year are what I choose to like PSAT, SATIIs, SATI, APs, etc.

I dunno about the state standardized testing, maybe the schedules are different for each state. In Kansas we have ITEDs in 9th and 12th grades only.

yeah, but the point is (from what i gather) state standardized testing is to prevent idiots from graduating... so nothing to stress out about... at least in florida...

Well, we have state mandated exams in a few subjects (Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, Alg. II, Geometry, Economics/Gov't, and US History starting next year) that count 25% of the grade. Fortunately they are all pretty easy, and every one I took (with the exception of Physics, where my class average was already a 97) boosted my grade.

Anyway, I'll be taking it anywhere from 1-4 times, depending on how well I do on it, the SAT IIs, etc.

oh... actually, that's interesting... what state?
