How many times would you recommend taking the SAT?

I took my first SAT three weeks ago (not including the SAT I took in 7th grade) and found out I received a 2020 today. I didn't study, so I definitely think I can improve my score.

I was under the impression that you could simply submit your best score to colleges and they wouldn't be told how many times you attempted to take the SAT, but from what I've been reading I guess they see all of your scores. My main question is how many times would you recommend taking the SAT - preferably the amount needed to get the best score you can get without looking as if you're too desperate and have too much money to throw away on SAT tests.

Also, should I factor in the SAT I took in 7th grade to that number?

SATs in 7th grade are automatically thrown out in admissions. You don’t need to incorporate them…

You’ve already taken it once, and you should take it no more than thrice.
You can retake subject tests as well, but I’d assume it would be looked unfavorably upon if you took the same set of subject tests more than twice.

^ Agreed. One or two are awesome, three is ok, four is somewhat sketchy - any more than that is more detrimental than beneficial.

You already did great - unless you want to go to an Ivy League school reallllllly badly, just save your $$$ for paying for applications.

It doesn’t matter how many times you take it. You send the scores you want.
