I was wondering how many times I should take the SAT. The first time I wasn't realy prepared so i have signed up to take them again. If I dont do as well as I would like to do on my next attempt is it ok to take them again? Do colleges look at you negatively after a certain number of attempts?

Spend the time to prep properly for your second try. I don't think colleges care that much, buit it is exhausting for you and takes time and energy away from your school studies and EC's, which might suffer.

Well, yeah, you can retake a bunch of times and I'm sure it'll be okay. Just make sure to improve significantly.

My personal rule of thumb (which I got from several college advice books) is to try hard to limit yourself to three testings. Is it the end of the world if you have four or more SAT I testings? No, but you do start to look SAT-obsessed. Also, the likelihood of increasing a significant amount after three testings is very low...it is usually not worth your time to go beyond 3 or maybe 4 testings.

2 or 3 testings is definitely fine, though.

Well, personally, I think the SAT is pretty fun to take and would like to keep taking it until I get good ole' 2400. However, I'm obsessive compulsive so maybe you might not want to do what I want to do :P

All students should take the SAT at least TWO times to better the probablity of obtaining a higher score on any subtest; most colleges will select the highest score of each subtest on any test administration to use in their evaluation of your application. However be mindful of the fact that taking the SAT more than three times usually does not result in higher scores so it will probably be a waste of time and money to do so.

Take it twice, tops.

^^Everthing that I have read says that you can safely take it up to 3 times. More than 3 times is dicey, but 3 times is fine.

Take it 2 times……

somebody on this thread took it 5 times and the 5th time got a 2400. I wonder what happened to her...

apparently three in eight students take it a second time, while only one in eight students take it a third.

but i think for most of the students on CC two or three times seems to be the norm. i wouldnt go over three though.

I wonder if 3x looks bad...

I don't think colleges care, really. As long as you're improving it's not a big deal.

I got fee waivers so I might as well take it twice this year and once next year, then I only got to pay once.

If you have 1380 or 1420, retake it. Do not do the mistake I did.

Retake til you get over 1800 or 2000.
