How many units did you have while in ccc for two years?

Can you guys tell me how many units you took a semester at your ccc?
did you take classes during the summer and winter quarters to make sure you got everything done in two years?

I just think its kind of difficult to do 60 + units in two years before transferring.

So can you guys tell me that and what schools you'll be attending?

Thanks :)

Most I have ever taken was 15 units, it was a lot of work and doable when you don’t work or if you have a superior time managing skills.

And it took me 2 1/2 years (school years) to finish all my requirements due to not getting my required classes in the beginning years

its actually quite easy if you are a full time student.

on my first semester i took 15units, winter 3, spring 17, summer 6, fall 16, winter 3, spring 14. summer off transferring.

On semesters, I had 15 fall (registered really late), then 18-19 spring. Then swapped to quarters, and had 6 over the summer, 16 fall, 19 winter, and 18 now.

I’ve never had too much of an issue with having a lot of credits, though some course combinations are just really really bad, like having three maths. :P

Coming in to CC: 6 units (one AP, one summer course)
Spring 2011: 16 units.
Summer 2011: 12 units.
Fall 2011: 15 units.
Spring 2012: 17 units.
Fall 2012: UCB!

I’ve heard of someone taking 25+ units here on CC from a while back, and I personally know someone doing 22 units. Take advantage of night classes and online classes. I know I could have done at least 3 more units per semester if I decided I wanted to do online classes.

hey that’s a pretty hefty load. I am hoping to do 12 for all semesters, 6 in the winter of 2012, and 9 in the summer.

Hm, it’s hard to compare since I’m on quarters. Well…I reckon it should be somewhat comparable, right? I mean, semesters or quarters, we should always average at 15 units each time (minimum) so…

It took me two years and a quarter (I skipped two quarters for health-type reasons) plus two summers, each with one class. I’ll have 113 quarter units as of this spring, which is about 75 semester units. I felt 14-17 quarter units was a fair load if you want free time, depending on the classes. I have friends who felt 20 units is perfectly reasonable, though. It’s about what you can handle and how much free time you like.

Oh, and I’m going to Berkeley next year. :)

@jackiemackie: It honestly depends how motivated you are. I had 10+ hours of volunteer work a week, a part-time job, and still had that workload. But I was super-motivated, and tenacity was my middle name.

@newsoul: Obviously quarter units are different, but theoretically, those on the quarter system should be able to squeeze one or two more classes in when compared to semester units. It’s also my understanding that quarter and semester units aren’t equal in terms of conversion to UC.

Like Ferrari4XD said. If you are a full time student it is a lot easier, and if your major is a soft science or liberal rights - basically anything that doesn’t require additional math/science classes - you can definitely earn 60 units in one year if you really try. I managed 30 units in one year and then 25 in one semester the next year. AP credits got me over the 60 unit requirement. If I had a stronger work ethic and better counseling, I probably could have finished in one year if I took classes Fall/Spring/Summer.

also, dare I say…online classes? I took one in HS and it was a total joke. I then took a class on campus in the same subject, same teacher and barely escaped a C.

@GSG900: Yes and no. We do have a chance to take more classes, but the classes that are sequenced tend to stay the same (for your Calc 1A, 1B, we have 1A, 1B, and 1C). So it depends. Units-wise, it comes out to be the same, really. You do 60, we do 90, so 15 per quarter/semester.

@SFKid: Online classes are easy, that’s the point of taking them. Easy classes like, say Philosophy or maybe Health Science are truly doable online. Harder classes like Calculus, Biology, etc. obviously need to be taken in-class. Why would you take the same class in CC that you took in HS online?

@newsoul: Thanks for clarifying that to me. Just curious, which CCC are you from? I know CCSF, CSM, Skyline, and Canada are on semester. Are you East Bay like Laney?

@GSG it wasn’t the exact class, but same subject - marine/ocean biology. Online was a joke, not sure if it even transferred but it counted as high school credit. I took another biology class with lol the same assigned textbook with the same teacher and barely passed. if your major doesn’t involve math or science, I imagine one can find away to do 60 units in a year if they really tried. probably need to enroll in more than two schools because of the unit cap most CCs impose.

I currently have over maybe 115 units…and I’ve been at CCC for 3 years.

@GSG900: Sorry for the late reply, I’m at De Anza College. Hm, I think the only CCs on the quarter system are De Anza College, Foothill College, and Lake Tahoe Community College. If by Easy Bay you mean CSUEB, that’s a four-year. I’m pretty sure Skyline, CCSF, CSM, and Canada are all on semesters. De Anza and Foothill, which are sister colleges, are the only quarter system bay area CCs that I know of.

Most I took was 15 units while working 40 hrs/week… 3 science, 1 math class. That sucked. God’s way of punishing me for being a dbag in high school. “NO FULL TIME STUDENT FOR YOU”

If you don’t work, I can see it being pretty easy to get outta there in two years (provided you can get classes, that is).

Umm…I took a lot of units actually. Like, 16-18. One semester, I took 20 actually. My CC go by semesters actually. I took summer ONCE. But I stayed there for 3 years since I changed my major. I ended up with 106 units HAHA. I actually thought that it was going to difficult to complete 60 units in two years but it was actually really easy. For me, it was hardER to complete ONLY 60 units in 2 years. HAHA. By the end of my two years, I probably had 90 already. Idk.

I’ll be attending UC Berkeley this Fall :)

My CC doesn’t offer winter anymore (budget cuts!), but I still managed to finish.

I had 9 coming in from taking courses while still in HS. (One wasn’t even UC transferable.)
First Semester: 13units
Second: 15 units
Summer: Study Abroad- 3units
Third: 13 units
Fourth: 18 units (one was a retake of a course from the previous semester)

I also took honors everything, worked, and had multiple extra-curriculars.
It was hard, but manageable. It really just depends a lot on your major (I’m social science so classes are a lot less studious than if I were a Bio major or something)
