How many units should I take this Spring prior to transferring?

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping to transfer to UCB or UCLA next fall and have already completed my 60 units as of this Fall (2012). If I do not need any more GE's or Major preps, and decide to just take 7-8 units this semester will this be viewed negatively by admissions? Or does it not really matter as long as I complete the 60 units and all required work before the end of Spring 2013? Thanks so much

They dont accept more than 64 or 67 units… it usually says on the school website.

It won’t matter. They like to see you full-time, but the important thing is that you’ve finished all of your major and GE requirements. I had 9 units my last semester and I was admitted to UCLA, so you should be fine. If there’s anything you can take now for your major that articulates, maybe a pre-req that was not required but recommended, I’d highly encourage you to do that. It’s cheaper, will likely be easier, and will only help you to graduate more quickly after you transfer.

I’m not sure what hazgirl was trying to say. The UC’s will accept any amount of your units for subject credit. The maximum credits you can start with at a UC is 70 semester units. Meaning, when you start your maximum class level is the equivalent to a junior that’s taken nearly one quarters worth of units. However, you can still satisfy requirements with subject credit if you have more than 70. There’s also no designation to which courses count to the initial 70 units, not that it matters. It’s not as if your first 70 units count and everything after that doesn’t. They group all your courses together and award subject credit individually for everything and you just initially start with an arbitrary 105 quarter units (70 semesters units).

^ I just meant they dont accept more than a certain amount of units, but you explained it better than I did

You should take more units due to the fact that you will be admitted to a college conditionally. So you must maintain over a 3.0. So if you just take 2 classes than its harder to maintain a 3.o. So take a lot of unit your last semester.
