My DD needs merit and FA so we are casting our net far and wide. Is 15 schools a realistic amount to audition at? That’s if she passes all the pre screens.( She’s passed 3 or 4 already due to her pre college teachers affiliations.)
I just don’t know if she can physically do that many within the time period and if she can stay healthy and rested. I wish we are in a situation where she could just pick 4 or 5 that she really loves ( we’ve taken lots of lessons!) and shoot for the moon…but financially we aren’t fortunate enough to do that.
Now that Oberlin is no longer doing early action I’m hoping to find another school/conservatory that she can audition for and know about prior to the new year…anyone know of any schools? I think Chapman might. An early acceptance is such a comfort.
Thanks so much!
Someplace with rolling admissions like Hartt or Ithaca can relieve a lot of stress.
15 seems like a lot to me - but you can always cancel auditions later on. (Of course, D was hesitant to do that in case there was merit aid offered…) Can you cut the list down at all (like in half)? ;}
Thank you @stradmom. D took a lesson at Hartt last Winter and crossed it off her list on they way back to the car. Ithaca is not on our list. It seems better known for MT than VP. D has 3 friends at Ithaca now doing MT. We just got back from Blair at Vanderbilt this afternoon. She is crossing it off her list, too. Just not what she wants.
Realistically I think we can get down to 10-12. We live in NYC and she can do some auditions here in January with the international conservatories she’s considering, so that helps. It’s the crazy travel schedule I’m afraid of most. An early action acceptance would be such a relief. To have a few auditions in Novemeber/Decemeber would be ideal.
@coloraturakid I wasn’t necessarily suggesting those particular schools, just pointing them out as examples of places with rolling admission. It sounds like your list is already carefully thought out.
thanks @stradmom. we are currently tweaking a very long list as we go into recording pre screens. I think D’s list is thought out, but we would love to find a conservatory that has an early action option like Oberlin had.
As of last year hartt did not have rolling admissions. Coloraturakid…sorry ur Ds experience wasn’t good. My d LOVES it.
@Sguti40, thank you. I’m glad your D is happy at Hartt. My D has 2 friends there and they love it, too.
@coloraturakid, looking at last year’s acceptances thread, it does not show much until the end of January for any classical conservatories. You may find some universities with rolling admissions, though, if youn have any as safeties. DD had a couple as safeties with decisions in by Christmas and shortly after.
thank you @Singersmom07. I’d love her to have some safeties, but with auditions is anything ever really safe? If you would send me a PM with those schools that your D applied to that have auditions in December I’d be so appreciative.
