I think I had 5 Ws and 4 Fs when I applied for Fall 2005. Got into UCLA and UCB thanks to academic renewal (for the Fs).

4.0 with 1W or more < 3.6 with no W

I have no W and my current GPA for end of spring 2007 is 3.75

If you guys are looking for a job after undergraduate, it doesn't matter.

But, if you guys are applying to grad school in the future with Ws, it's a red flag like walnut said.

4.0 with 1W > 4.0 with 1 F > 3.6 with no W =P

3.6 with no W > 4.0 with 1W> 4.0 with 1 F

and if W doesn't matter it has to be

4.0 with 1W > 3.6 with no W > 4.0 with 1 F

common sense eracer

19 w's? amazing..

i thought we're talking about transferring to UCs, cider0401. wait... if op is not transferring, I still think 4.0 with 1W > 4.0 with 1 F > 3.6 with no W... my common sense is not making any sense? lol

oh eracer.. I was talking about going grad school... sorry man.

19 w's? good luck with grad school buddy...

damn you guys are scaring me. I have two W's but do grad schools care if they were for classes that weren't for your major(Geography and music for example). Can we explain the w's? The first W I got was in the first class I ever took (Geography) and I didn't know anything about w's for drop deadlines and I was in the class for like 4 weeks and we didn't do shizz so I said f this class and dropped. My other W was in summer and I signed up for a class during the spring and never attended, problem was the teacher never dropped me and by the time I checked i was still in the class and past the deadline. Think these are good excuses or me just being a dumbass?

A W here and there probably won't hurt you even for grad school too much, here is the problem, you are going to be applying against many other people without a W with the same to higher gpa... you pick. A withdraw is something that should be a last resort and not because you are afraid of getting a B. Generally a W means you are failing the class (that is how it is looked at). Now if you were in an interview for gradschool/ professional school and you told them you dropped it because you were getting a B.. they might think you are full of it or just messed up in the head.
