“This year we admitted a somewhat higher number of students in Regular Decision, and we anticipate admitting fewer students off the waiting list.”
Well, that’s disconcerting. Thanks for the link, though.

When do spots from the waitlist start coming out?

They’ll probably start coming out Monday if there are remaining spots to be had. After all, isn’t that when you have to tell schools whether you’re coming or not? While some will have sent in their reply that they’ve chosen other schools, you have to remember that they offer admission to more kids than they can accommodate due to the expected yield. However, with such a large early decision classes and a larger class of regular decisions, not sure how it will play out.

Okay, thanks!
If people do get in off the waitlist, please post here so we can see when they start coming out! thanks!

Also, usually, if you do get in off the waitlist, how long do you have to decide?

Twenty-four hours, as a courtesy to other wait-listers

Has anyone heard back yet?

Does anyone know how many people Midd waitlisted?

If this year is like previous years, they waitlist between 1,000 and 2,000 students.

Anyone heard anything?

1000 and 2000? that’s ridiculous! the class is only ever gonna be like 600 students

not that your stats were ridiculous, just that their admissions strategy is ridiculously misleading and it makes me sad

It is sad, because the odds are so bad.The consolation is that it means you are QUALIFIED, just not lucky. There are too many highly talented people who want to attend. This is Admission’s way of not having to split hairs even further. They pick who is qualified, and then create a balanced class.

Honestly… while I didn’t look up the stats exactly, they may OFFER 1000-2000 spots but I think only about 600 or so stay on it. Still not great odds, but every school does it (and is easily checked on common data sets) so you know going in.

Here’s a link to a story that may help you realize that you’re not alone.

that’s a looot of people
Also, if they were going to take people off the waitlist, wouldn’t they have started doing so already?

[Waiting List FAQ | Middlebury](<a href=“Application Instructions and Deadlines | Middlebury College”>Application Instructions and Deadlines | Middlebury College)

“We generally fill any vacant positions in the class between mid‑May and mid‑June. Prior to the second week in May, we have no way of knowing whether or not there will be any openings. You will be notified by e-mail when we are unable to admit additional students from the Waiting List.”

I called the admissions office. They said they don’t know if they will be using their waiting list at this time

Does that mean that they have too many deposits vs spaces and that the wait list is not going to move?

ahh this mini wait is stressful! i almost don’t want them to use it just to make life easier, haha. it would totally mess up my head if it actually worked out and i had to make yet ANOTHER decision! right now i’m attending colorado college in the fall…and i don’t know if i’d still choose to go to Midd if i got off the wait list! (though that is super unlikely anyhow…)

have any other schools announced any wait list stuff yet?
