how many will receive Harvard application pkg

My daughter received Harvard application pkg in May 2010. I wonder about how many students receive Harvard application pkg?

My D stats are not great and we are not a low-income (or in a low income area), not a minority either. The only thing different than others may be her baton twirling (not a popular sport) champion. currently, SAT I is 2120, WGPA 4.38, UWGPA 3.95, top 6% . While we do not know why she got the pkg, does anyone know the chance of my D to get in Harvard?

What else she can do to make it possible?

Thanks,

The packages are I think sent out based on PSAT or SAT score results. Sadly they do not mean anything in terms of admissions, I got one too, and I think there was already a thread about this. It does stink when top schools send out things like that because it always makes a person think they are special.

Here is some more information:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/976815-they-sent-me-application-good-sign-meaningless.html

I’d guess that more than 50,000 students get the packages. How’d I come up with the figure? 50,000 students qualify for National Merit semifinalist or National Merit Commended. Any students scoring that high meet the minimum qualifications for Harvard admissions.

In addition, there are students who’d qualify for Harvard who didn’t take the PSAT or who somehow blew the PSAT even though they are very bright. They could get application packages as a result of their SAT or ACT scores.

Harvard casts a wide net in an effort to create the most outstanding student body possible, one that is academically capable of graduating from Harvard and also diverse in terms of interests, experiences, countries of origin, religions, ethnicities, race, and socioeconomic status.

What are your daughter’s chances of getting accepted? 7% of those who applied last year were accepted, so that’s probably a reasonable figure to use for your daughter’s chances.

Interesting discussions on this thread and certainly hope to know more.
