<p>Guys, how many words have you written on the essay about Why Duke? The question says we should write in one or two paragraphs, but it does not give the words limit. I wrote about 400 words, but would that be too long?</p>

<p>I didn’t write a “Why Duke” essay because of how much the application emphasized “optional”. Just wondering but has anyone else been accepted to Duke without a Why Duke essay?</p>

<p>Mine was 739 and I got accepted, so I don’t think you need to worry about word count. But in my defense, I have A LOT of reasons for wanting to go to Duke. I wasn’t just rambling on the whole time - I was very specific.</p>

<p>But like splashdown94, I also had very specific reasons for wanting to attend and I wanted to convey my enthusiasm for the school through the essay. I dont think it’ll hurt if you don’t write it since they made a big point of it being optional.</p>
