<p>Okay, Common App essay is minimun 250 - no maximum. My essay is 850 words - and I cut off about 200 words from that. Every sentences oozes meaning. Are college admissions officers going to stop reading my essay after 250 words?</p>
<p>No. But while your 850-word essay might be of a larger scope than the adcoms are looking for. They're looking in the 400-600 word range, most likely.</p>
<p>i think if you have a catching opening sentence and the essay isnt redundant and repetitive, they will continue reading it. But you never know i guess</p>

<p>I would agree with milessmiles--they're looking for about 1 page, or 400-600 words. If yours gets into the 650-700 range I don't think you're in too much trouble, but you'll want to make sure that every sentence really is as necessary as you think it is. Have others read it and tell you if there is anything superfluous or distracting. You might even want to try cutting it down a hundred words or so, see if you still like it, and if not just use the longer version.</p>
