how many wrong in each section to get a 700 or above

Just to develop a strategy for my son's second go round on the SAT 1,how many wrong in each section Math, Cr and Writing to get a 700 or above. Also what would be the aprox. score to leave one blank on the Math SAT 1 instead of guessing and getting it wrong.

Thanks!

It's not a pretty sight.

Math: 3, 4 if you are lucky. 4 usually, if you do get lucky, is 700 or 710.
Reading: 6-7, I think.
Writing: Depends on essay, but don't miss more than 6 with a 9 essay.

Basically... don't try to miss any.

so out of the 67 reading questions, if you miss more than 7ish, ure out of the 700s?? thats so messed up

why is that messed up, sushant?

for CR, if you miss 8, it would be around 690. so basically, anything less than 8.
for math, minus 3 is around 740. i think you can miss 4-5. (5 would be really borderline)
for writing, depends on essay, so not too sure on this one.

You lose more scaled points at the top scores than on the bottom.

And Mindy, doesn't your son have the College board prep book? It should give you an idea of the numbers. Just average the range you see.

This is where learning the art of omitting comes into play. Yet another skill needed for the SAT.
If you can see which problems you are probably going to get wrong and you omit them, it can really save a score

For the May 2008 test,
i got 700 on CR with 7 wrong
750 on Math with 1 wrong, 1 omitted
780 on Writing with 2 wrong, 11 essay
