How many years of a language is considered "good"?

I took Spanish 1 in middle school and am taking Spanish 2 as a freshman. I'm gonna take Spanish 3 as a sophomore. Should I stop taking Spanish after sophomore year or take it for another year during junior year?

One year wont kill you. You have senior year free.

Take at least 3 years. Middle school does not count.

A lot of good colleges only need to see two years of a language in high school.

Most good colleges require two, i only took two because otherwise i wouldn’t have space for APs. so APs > Language

Depends. Three is generally a good number, but some schools might not really care, as long as you have at least two. If you want a certain major that would use it though, you’ll need four.

At least 16…

As many as possible. Enough to get a pass on the AP Spanish exam, so you don’t need to study a foreign language in college.

I’ld take spanish junior year.

I took 3.5. I did Spanish 1 and 2 in middle school, 3 as a freshman, and a semester of 4 during junior year. My school doesn’t require any foreign language and only recommends 2 for college. Most colleges want you to have 3-4 years. 4 is preferable though.

sorry, but not sure how to paste the thread…hopefully this will get you there

Honestly…you just need 2. Colleges would rather see you take an AP class instead of a 3rd year language.
