I was just wondering how many years of foreign language accepted students took.

I'm asking because I have only taken 2/3 (Spanish 1 in 8th grade) and I can't possibly go on because of scheduling conflicts. However, I am taking additional science and math courses, which is what I'm interested in. Do you think that this will hurt my admissions chances?

I took 4 years of Mandarin Chinese, 6 years of Latin (beginning in 7th grade) and 2 years of classical Greek. I did this because I'd always wanted to focus on languages in college. If you're interested in science and math, take those instead.

haha.
yeah i think they recommend four, but usually say "there is no set curriculum for gaining admittance". i thought i read somewhere that they also recommend four years of science, but i got in with only three. the point is, one class is not a make-or-break thing.

I had 3 years of high school Spanish, 2 years of high school Japanese, plus 6 hours of advanced level Spanish from the University of North Texas and University of Valencia in Spain, and in my senior year I'm gaining 6 more hours each of Japanese and Spanish.

...but my case is kind of strange... I really think if you have scheduling conflicts you'll be fine. just keep challenging yourself. there's no set required list of courses for admission to harvard.
