Does the elite schools require you to have a mininum of years in a foreign language in high school?
I’ve taken 2 years of French and I’m not taking it this year. Should I get back in it?

I checked b/c I had the issue where if I wante a 3rd year of Spanish, I'd have to drop history or make my own course...

Emory, Amherst, Stanford, & Richmond all said that proficiency in language is valued much more than a 4th year of insert the blank, they said if you want to go into any of the social sciences, they would rather you take the language and make up for what ever the other subject it was in college, b/c language is the hardest of the 5 areas of study to catch up in.

Most schools suggest three which means you better have a good reason to take fewer than that--4 is really best, but I talked to a lot of schools that said an extra AP can make up for just 3 years

The elite schools does look for lots of dem languages.

If your applying into engineering or technical fields many schools arent so demanding about going over the minimum on foreign language.

Three years is what is recommended for most elite colleges and universities. Four is better, of course, and what I recommend. Two years, unless you have a very good reason (a better reason than because it conflicted with your schedule), will put you at a big disadvantage. (Two years of a language happens to be the requirement at my high school.)

If this is going to be your junior year, you can probably go without taking French this year. But make sure you take your third year of French your senior year.
