how many schools should I apply to???? my stats are in my stats profile.
what is the norm? is there a limit?

10-15. That is if you can start early. Most ppl would say 7-8, or even 12 max.

Seriously, your going to be like…damnit, I wish I applied to more schools. Also, The more schools you apply, the greater diversity of financial aid packages you get. You can see which schools give you more money, which grants or loan packages you get, etc.. etc… which is an AWESOME feeling. I highly recommend applying to a broad range of schools to get broad range of finaid packages.

That is, you can apply to as many as you want, so long as you provide sufficient enough time to complete everyone with QUALITY and military precision. Go Army. :)

There is also an obvious cost limiting factor. So, apply to as many as you can afford.

Think of it this way - if you got rejected from all schools except ONE and you are so depressed because you really didn’t like that school, don’t bother applying there. You are most likely taking a space away from someone who really wanted to go there.

Most counselors encourage you to shoot for 2-3 reaches, 2-3 matches, and 1-2 safeties.

The most important thing is using this summer to research your schools. Do they offer majors that you are interested in? Does the school have the social scene that you are looking for?

Going to college is like shopping
Be happy with your purchase!

It depends on how much your parents are willing to pay and on how much financial aid you’re eligible for. For example, if your parents only willing to pay for what UC-Berkeley costs, but they’re not eligible for financial aid at the private schools, you won’t really need to apply to that many schools unless you think the debt is worth it.
