I want to get out of taking English 1 my first semester this fall. I took a CAPP-English 101 course at my high school, which gave me credits which should transfer to my college. I got a B in the course (my final paper was 2 points away from being an AB)...and the college I am attending this fall says it will just be a transfer credit, and does not affect my GPA. However, when applying to med school, they will want my transcript from the college that gave me those credits for English. How will medical schools view this, and would it just be worthwhile for me to take English again in the fall? I want to cut back on the credits I'm taking my first semester of college (about 17)

I’m not familiar with CAPP-English 101. Was the high school course a dual credit college course? If so, according to AMCAS and TMDSAS you made a B. You will need to get a copy of that transcript and will need list the college as a school attended on your app. It will be included in your GPA for AMCAS and TMDSAS. How your UG treats it is of no concern to them.

If it is , OTOH, more in the nature of an AP/IB course, then it would not be included because your UG did not give it a grade on your UG transcript.

It is pretty much as if I took the course at that college, so yeah you are right the AMCAS will view it as a B and need that transcript. My feeling is that I should just retake it, that B will not be so hot on the overall GPA

so just to clarify, i did AP bio and skipped freshmen bio, so since it turns up as a T on my transcript, AMCAS does not consider that into gpa right?

AMCAS will only give it a grade if your UG gives it a specific course credit (which many do) and a grade (which most don’t).

tompi, if you skipped bio 1, be sure to take some upper div bio so you still show success in a year of college bio with lab
