So let's put humanity to the test in terms of morality, eh.

There is a fire and your dog/cat is stuck in it, to which you are very close with (love him dearly), along with your neighbor, to whom you say simple "hi's and bye's" occasionally, but no close relationship.

Now the fire is approaching both of them. Hot Hot Hot! They are starting to burn.

I'd go for the human first with the intention that I'd also get my cat (who I love soooooooooooooo dearly). My instinct would be to save the human, but I wouldn't knowingly leave the cat. If I were asked which I would choose, I would say cat (you don't understand, this cat is awesome), but when push comes to shove and emotions come into play, a human being would proabbly be the first thing I grabbed.

"If I were asked which I would choose, I would say cat (you don't understand, this cat is awesome), but when push comes to shove and emotions come into play, a human being would proabbly be the first thing I grabbed."

film I can bet I know how you feel due to the relationship with your cat. yet you realize another human being here is involved too. you provide love for both equally.

i still think you did not choose only "one' if it comes to the ultimate question.

maybe if i paraphrase it you'll give a more direct answer:

fire is approaching and you can only jump in there to save ONE from extreme burning within 10 seconds (lol please guys don't say why are you the savior not going to get burned when jumping in there to grab them - you have magical powers for the time being, ok?) - and after you save one that's it, it's over.

Yeah, I would save the human. Even if I had an attachment to the animal, I would feel really bad if I didn't save my neighbor. I seriously would not be able to face their family. More people would be affected by the neighbor dying than the cat/dog. But I might try to get the pet afterwards...if there is time.

I'm being stark honest here, it's easy to say "I'd save the neighbour I think I've seen atleast once over the pet I've seen and loved every day of my life for as long as I can remember" but I think it's intutive, you don't think who you want to save, you just go ahead and have to do the first thing that comes to mind. I wouldn't call it immoral if someone went ahead and saved his dog but well, humanity is a totally different story, and I don't know what I'd do but yes, when someone saves another person at the stake of his own pet, that's when want to you cry and smile at it all....

Animals have conscious too. They can feel pain. It has breath just like you do. It will feel the burn. But will it feel the burn the same way the human does?

In any event why would we choose the human?

Is this kind of like a stupid Nazi terminology. "Choose the superior so only the strong survive"

In this case the human is the superior obviously. So are we using Nazi ideologies to justify our claim?

Gosh that's a hard question. I don't think we are. Humans are just so precious. We can reason, we have amazing thoughts that animals cannot conceive of. We have abstract capabilities and think of our futures and goals, our lives, etc., whereas animals only live in the present and cannot distinguish between past and future (every second for an animal is like a new life actually - they don't know $hit about what time is or what's going on) But is it fair to say that we are using Hitler's system when selecting the human and not the animal?

Well, I am the odd man out here. I would choose my cat. I have en attachmnet to my cats, they are part of my family. I make no apologies for my choice, either. But of course, I would still try to save both.

I'd save neither. Perhaps I would alert the authorities. If they already both started burning, odds are I will have no chance to get there fast enough to stop there internal organs from bursting, and they will likely already have far too much smoke in their lungs. Why risk severe burns or even death for myself?

I meant that I would save the human when confronted with the situation just because it would be a knee jerk reaction. I wouldn't really want to choose him over the cat though. I would just have to.

Goldshadow, please do not judge me. Sorry, but I would choose my cat that is essentially part of my family over some perfect stranger. that is how I feel. If you do not like it. I don't know what to tell you. Mind your own business.
