How much access do I have to the resident halls if I don't live on campus?

I’ve decided to live off campus for the upcoming year and I would like to know what parts of the resident halls I can (or can’t) access as a commuter to UT Austin. Mostly interested in Jester Center and San Jacinto Hall. Any information would be appreciated.

My previous university was very strict and would not allow anyone who wasn’t a resident inside the building without jumping through flaming hoops.

You can enter the buildings, you just can’t access the dormitories part of the building. You can go to the dining halls located in San Jac and Jester, but you can’t access any of the dorm halls or study lounges without having someone that lives there card you in.

It’s pretty easy to get into the dorm, especially Jester because there are so many people live there they don’t even bother to secure it.
Jester’s dining hall is open to public, everybody can use it. For other facilities in the dorm you will need a card to enter the door, but again, they’re not really secure so you can just ask someone to let you in.
