How much Aid does Cornell give?

I have heard that since they accept so many people,
they do not give much aid compared to other Ivies or top universities...
or that they give large amounts of loans but not much grants or scholarships...

is that true?
I was going to apply early, but cost is my primary concern.

thx. in advance.

If they accept you, they usually try to do their best to make sure that you'll be able to attend.

That being said, most of the financial aid they give you consists of loans which you'll need to pay off later, so it's not as appealing as a financial aid package from somewhere like Princeton.

It depends, tho it is highly unlikely that you would have more loans from Cornell than grants in aid. Your need will be met as well as any Ivy, but the mix of outright grants and loans may not be as appealing as P, Y, H, and possibly better than UP, C, D or B. Remember, tho, it's negotiable, and if you have some special talent (read: athletics) or status that opens up particular programs, your mix may be very favorable. Also, you can negotiate the mix if you are deciding between say, Yale and Cornell, and may well achieve at least competitive parity. Get in first, compare later.

not true about more loans than grants--my S has a grant for over 22k, what i consider relatively low loans for such an expense, and a couple of scholarships(outside) and he chooses to do some part-time work(not work study) and we are responsible for about 12k a year--all in all we are happy because the school is by far footing the biggest chunk of the bill and we make just under 100k in a rather rural area so i was surprised at the form our aid took!!

Ivies all on way to free tuition for under 100k earners and additional aid toward all expenses less one earns. All are generous, often with aid up to 200k salaried depending on other circumstances. Individuals may quibble about size and content of aid, but for many in middle-earner category, Ivies less expensive than state universities.

Too bad you weren't the person compiling our student's financial package.

hows the aid going to be for me since my parent's income is 0k since last year... due to an automobile accident that left my father paralyzed waist up..
