how much AP summer work do you have?

August is basically here, and although I've been working pretty consistently with getting summer assignments done, I still have some more stuff to do (mostly with ap enviro and lit).

What kind of stuff do you guys have assigned, if any? And how far are you into it? I always get paranoid that I'm not going to get it done around this time of the summer.

hmmm, well i'm done with AP's :), but around this time I remember getting through absolutely nothing, though let's see. For Lit, I had to read Notes from Underground [Dostoevsky] and Dead Souls [Gogol] and write a research paper consisting of at least ten pages. For US History I had to read 200 pages of Rise and Fall of the Great Powers [Kennedy], and write two essays: one about what advantages the US had that allowed it to become a superpower and the other I forget. For Physics I had to outline three chpaters and do about eighty problems. And for Spanish Lang. I had to read ten short stories and answer the attached questions. So yeah good luck with everything, personally I was horrible with summer work and usually left it [well did leave it] to the last week before school, so happy summer and all.

I'm halfway through homework for AP Lit which is read Frankenstein, Crime and Punishment, Heart of Darkness, and Things Fall Apart and answer questions on each which are due (passed in online) on a certain date. I'm reading Heart of Darkness now. AP Bio homework is to finish reading and doing all the practice tests in the Amsco's prep book (so boring). I'm on the first set of review questions.

For Calc BC, we have three assignments (each not too long) to send in at different points throughout the summer. So that's 2/3 done, since it has to be. I've started Hard Times, but I still have to read King Lear, Native Son, and Jane Eyre and do lengthy assignments for all (Lit). I've just barely started L'ecole des femmes for French Lit (a play) and I'll need to write an essay for that (in French, obviously). I have to read basically a whole Phys text and answer a zillion ques for Phys B. I should really start that one. And then read 3 chap of the text and do a practice test for Econ. Most have tests within the first few days as well. But I'm not too worried...I still have over a month.

My summer AP work is all self-study (remember, not a great or big school...). Right now I'm finishing English Lang, and moving onto Physics.

none! I signed up for AP English lit, calc, and physics, though.

same here...same here..except i am not done with much yet and i am focusing more on SAT's Right now.....btw what other aps are u self studying?

Too much. For AP Calc AB, I have two thick-a** packets with logs and stuff... not too hard, but the amount in it is atrocious. Plus loads of vocabulary to "internalize."
All of which I have barely touched because more than half of the packet is dealing with the TI-92 (I don't remember the number... it's the new one) and how to work it, and I haven't bought it yet (I mean, come on. The think is freaking $160+ and I am NOT rich). So... I've been utterly lazy.

Same thing here too, xylem... I'm just focusing on college app essays, SAT I and II studying.

Other than that, I have no summer homework. Party-time!

And just a general question, but is it wise to self-study for AP European History? I heard it has a crapload of memorization (dates and stuff), and I'm not all that good with dates and I need teachers to drill that sort of stuff into my thick, date-resistant skull.

Taking Chem, Lang, Econ, and Stats next year.

Only homework is to read I know why the cage bird sings and Ella Minnow Pea for Lang (technically, it's not even required... but it helps).

People taking AP maths and have summer work, I feel woe for you.. It sounds like I have the same stuff as most people.

lit: crime & punishment, the tempest, passage to india (3 journals for each), 30 vocab
enviro: long definitions of legislation (plus put on notecards), and a "newspaper scrapbook" where we find articles on enviro and summarize them
euro: two relatively easy papers
gov: optional, but read hardball and outline from the history textbook

lol if its the TI-92 then dont buy it lol cause its not allowed on the CB tests (it has a keyboard thats why) but i think its most likely the TI-89 so yea lol..if ur buying a calc get the TI-89Titanium ..its 150$ btw not 160+And yea THATS allowed on CB tests..

Man I feel so old, everyone's got like 89's and 92's, I guess I'm more nostalgic for my TI-83 Plus which has gotten me through plenty since 7th grade but oh well :D

2 books for English Lit, 1 Book for U.S. Govt for school, and Environmental Science, Stat, and possibly Psych all self study

I have to re-write the Declaration of Independence in my own words for AP Gov. I have a feeling that this year's gonna be preety easy :)

ti-83 for life :D

i have to read
frankenstein, mystic rivers, and a grammer book for ap lit
a packet for ap calc bc

[if ur buying a calc get the TI-89Titanium ..its 150$ btw not 160+And yea THATS allowed on CB tests..]

Holy cow, looks like I'm getting ripped off wherever I'm shopping. T__T I guess it must be the TI-89 titanium. What on earth am I going to need a keyboard for...?

(and if you can't tell, i don't know how to quote. somebody, help?)

my school starts on september 6th and i am taking AP American history. I have barely even started my summer work and i am starting to get worried that i won't be able to get it done!

I have to:

1.) Do 3 chapter outlines from the Enduring Vision textbook
2.) Create a map of the early explorers to North America
3.) Make a Colombian Exchange "T-chart" (left side designate what goods were brought from Europe to the New World and on the right side designate what goods were discovered in the New World and shipped back to Europe.)
4.) Write a paragraph explanation on the significance of the Columbian Exchange and the role it would play in European colonization of the New World.

Create a thesis statement and an outline for each of the following:
5.) Analyze the impact of the Atlantic trade routes established in the mid 1600's on the econimic development in the British North American colonies.
6.) Compare the ways in which 2 of the following reflected colonial tensions in colonial society
Bacon's Rebellion (1676)
Pueblo Revolt (1680)
Salem Trials (1692)
7) How did the economic, geographic, and social factors encourage the growth of slavery as an important part of the economy of the southern colonies between 1607-1700?

I think that i might not be able to get it all finished! Like none of that stuff makes sense but maybe it will when i read the book. I hate summer work because you don't have your teacher there to help you out. Any suggestions or advice would be nice =]

I took AP US History class year. Looking at the stuff you just listed, I would suggest:

*don't focus too much on the map, you won't need it and will forget it eventually (as in, one week)
*memorize the columbian exchange "t-chart," especially what goods go where AND what the goods are (the latter is important)
*focus on how those goods/diseases affected the new world
*don't focus too much on the atlantic trade routes themselves, just what was being shipped
*focus on bacon's rebellion! don't worry too much about the pueblo revolt and salem witch trials, but know the basics (who, what, when, where, why..)
*#7 is major.. focus on all of it

It sounds like your teacher did exactly the same with us for the outline/write a thesis questions. We had an out of class FRQ where we had to pick one (pueblo, bacon, or witch) and write on them politically, socially, economically, and so on.. so your teacher is definitely heading in the right direction. Hope that helps a bit. Once you have your teacher/read the book, it will make more sense.

AP Comp Sci B - none
AP French - none
AP Euro - read a book, read some articles, read some sections of our textbook, and write a few pages' worth in response. It doesn't look that hard though.
