I know that there isn't a uniform amount that transfer students' GPAs drop after we transfer to the UC schools, but how much of a drop is average/to be expected if we work at roughly the same intensity as we did in CC? I know there are many variables involved (transfer school, major, etc.) but how much is common? If you've already transferred, if possible please share your experience- pre/post transfer GPA.

There is already a thread on this pretty much “Your first week at a UC” where people shared their experiences. My impression was that people who tranferred to UCLA thought the material was the same but the competition was intense, so it was much harder. A few people talked about having near 4.0s coming out of Community College, and drop down to a 3.0 working even harder at UCLA.

I’m a recent graduate of UC Berkeley, majoring in English. My Community College GPA was 3.95 and my final Berkeley GPA was 3.82. I know transfers with even higher GPAs than me though.

Don’t worry, almost everyone’s GPA drops a little bit just because the course work is more challenging. I did find that transfers were just as capable of maintaining high GPAs as four year students, so keep working hard and you’ll be able to get ahead, just as you probably did at the CC.

Transferred to Berkeley fall of 08 as an English major.

My CC GPA Was a 3.37. My current GPA at Berkeley is a 3.57

I think it really depends on the major. I don’t feel threatened by competition at Cal. Also, because I’m doing upper division work that is mostly my major, I enjoy it a lot more, so I work harder. So my GPA has only dropped 0.06 points due to a more difficult 2nd semester. Although I really psyched myself to be prepared to see Bs on my transcript, it hasn’t happened yet.
