How much are prerequisites enforced?

Hey CC,

Does anyone know how much prerequisites for a class are enforced?

I just enrolled in an upper division class in the Spanish department, but the prereq. was Spanish 25, which I have not taken.

Will I be kicked out the class once school starts.

BTW, I'm a native spanish speaker.

Thanks!

No one really cares.

If you can handle the coursework, then take the class.

Ok, thanks!

I was looking over the course description/book list and it seems pretty doable.

Is this the case for every class? Like Telebears wont drop you from the class or something if it detects that you’re missing a prerequisite?

The only classes I’ve seen that drop people because of a lack of prerequisites are those that are extremely popular and full. The professor might give an advantage to more senior students or students in a particular major that way.

At CalSO they said Berkeley does not enforce Prereqs.

Can anyone else confirm that Berk doesn’t enforce prereqs?

Telebears is stupid. There you have it.

some classes will tell you straight up that they check prereqs (chem 3b, bio 1a, ph150a) otherwise most don’t/

It can only enforce what it knows directly about you, but it does not have a way to search through your transcript, thus can’t tell what you already completed or what you have earned equivalent credit for. There are a few markers in Bearfacts (your personal profile) that list your class level, college, declared status, major . . . these are the only things that telebears can enforce. If a professor or department wants to enforce anything else, it has to do it manually. Most don’t bother.
