Uhm, how much weight do colleges put on SAT II's? As long as I don't totally bomb them, am I okay? I'm expecting a 700+ in US history, a 750+ in lit, and a 650+ in math iic and am applying to HYPS type schools.

interesting question. but let me re-phrase it to make it even more interesting: is the sat II weighted more heavily than the SAT I.

The Answer: depends who you ask. While the college board would have us believe that schools put greater faith in the SAT I, that may not be the case. Several former admissions directors, like Duke and Harvard admissions directors, have written works, available at your nearest bookstore, in which they said that they always placed a greater emphasis on the SAT TWO! In fact, the UC System published a study that concluded that the SAT II's have a greater correlation to freshman gpa's than the SAT I. Of course, that more than embarasses the collegeboard, b/c the whole purpose behind the sat I is that it can help schools predict freshman gpa's for students.

It seems like it depends on the college... like... I know you start your major at most private colleges your freshman year, where as at big universities you don't really, and you have to be accepted to the actual college at that university your junior year. So for instance, if you were applying to the writing program at Pratt, the SATI probably doesn't mean much at all, but if you aced the English SATII it probably looks pretty good...

Of course... it's just an educated guess...

I'm also hoping for the HYPS stuff and I've recently BOMBED the May SAT II. 650 US History and below 550 in Chem (800 math 2 though so i'm not a complete idiot atleast). And i'm really really scared that this will screw me over.

I know i'm going to retake Chem atleast during the fall since i'm doing SAT I tomorrow.

Anyway, do colleges look at the fact that you've taken the SAT II's twice? My line of reasoning is that they'll look badly at it since Sat II's are supposed to measure how good you are at school, and doing well on it during the fall only means that you obsessively studied like crap over the summer. I pretty much plan to 800 Chem in October. maybe even self-study physics since i really wanna do engineering. any suggestions/tips?

(btw sorry post-maker if you're mad that i barged in with my own problems. you can tell me to delete if u want)

it's okay, i don't mind :)

i think that you get to choose to send only your top 2-3 scores to colleges, or whatever their requirement is. I don't think it's like the SAT I, where they see every time you took it.. although really I don't know for sure.

its all included on the score report all scores SAT 1s and 2s

All Sat II scores are reported to colleges, but you can take them twice. Try reading 'A For Admissions,' I don't remember who its by but you can google that - its an admissions person from Dartmouth explaining the AI system ... basically - class rank counts for 1/3, sat I counts for 1/3, sat II counts for 1/3
