My family has very low income (~$20,000 last year) and my "dream school," which is also private, expects me to pay over $10,000 for my freshman year, excluding loans (I will be loaning a little over $3000 for freshman year)! Ridiculous! (This is Northwestern Univeresity btw)
How much is/are your school(s) making you pay?
How are you and your family paying for it?
How much are you going to loan?

How much is/are your school(s) making you pay?
In practice, $25,000 per year (I don't count loans as financial aid; my actual EFC is just under $22,000).

How are you and your family paying for it?
$3,000 educational grant from the Swedish government; work-study and summer jobs; outside scholarships if I qualify for any; Swedish (low-interest) student loans. My parents will pay whatever's left (a few thousand, probably), but they expect me to come up with the bulk of it.

How much are you going to loan?
At least $50,000 over four years.

How much is/are your school(s) making you pay?
$2,900 deposit.

How are you and your family paying for it?
Hopefully 0 if my scholarships pull through.

How much are you going to loan?
0. $2,900 isn't THAT much.

Oh by the way, the school I'm talking about is the United States Military Academy and my education there is fully subsidized by the United States Government.

$48000. Full price...yay. But I didn't even bother applying for any Financial Aid...EFC came out to be like $50000.

I don't even think my family's wealthy, and we're just slightly upper middle class...

But thankfully my dad gets $10000 a year from his company to pay for my college.

How much is/are your school(s) making you pay?
$23,500 a year at UC Irvine. All of it.

How are you and your family paying for it?
Fortunately, I will be able to graduate without any loans (or atl east with very small loans)... My family earns too much to get a Cal Grant or any kind of grant from the UCs. I'm hoping for scholarships though.

How much are you going to loan?
While I may not have to take out any loans at all, my parents might, but that is all speculative.

Spectrez, When did USMA start asking for a deposit? If you make it in you get the scholarship.

~$50K, all expenses considered (coast-to-coast travel, books, misc.)

Income and Savings

0

How much is/are your school(s) making you pay? $0 ~ in fact I was reimbursed $2,300 from scholarships and grant money ~ I did take a small student loan of $1,700 for this past year ~ will not take a loan this year. ~ I also paid roughly $800 for books for two semesters.

How are you and your family paying for it? grants and scholarships ~ WVU gave me a great offer for my freshman year ~ Qualify for Pell and SMART grant this year ~ Still waiting for my finaid package for 2007-2008 school year. Since I am considered a junior, I guess I have to wait awhile. They said probably by mid May. That really stinks! I was in the PA Dual Enrollment Program (rec'd 3 college course credits), Upward Bound (rec'd 1 college course credit) and my AP Exams ~ I had a total of 47 credits transferred going into my freshman year, which is why I am classified as a Junior my second semester of my freshman year.

How much are you going to loan? Nothing for the next 1.5 years....
