How much can an F in a 4 credit class bring down a GPA?

So this recent semester I took a bare minimum of 13 credits and for one of the classes, I got an incomplete because I didn’t have the correct resources to do the class (such as a laptop, the site it used would not work on my mobile device plus I also couldn’t download the lockdown add-on for finals. Then in my area travel was banned so I couldn’t just go somewhere that had a computer or internet, also many lockdowns).
And the deadline to finish the course is in two days and my situation still hasn’t changed so I’ll be failing the course.
I was mainly wondering how an F for a 4 credit course would bring down a term GPA? My minimum for my main scholarship that pays my tuition is a 3.2 GPA cumulative.
Also details about an incomplete extension being left, well, unfinished. It stated that I’d get the grade by the deadline but is there something I’m not aware of that could penalize me for not completing the assignments?

I am not sure how to advice you but why not drop the class when you found out you couldn’t complete it due to lack of resources. I would call the school or email your counselor. Maybe you can get an W or something until you have the proper resources to complete the class. Don’t take the F if you don’t have to. These are difficult times for many. Schools might be making allowances to help you. No one here knows your schools policy. But don’t wait any longer.

I agree don’t take the F. I don’t know what your overall gpa is because we would need a break down of quality points and credits.

However, even if you were to get A’s in your other 3 courses if you took an F in a 4 credit course your overall GPA would be a 2.76 (B-).

No way to know the affect on your overall GPA without knowing how many other college credits you have taken and your GPA from those.

If this is your first term, and you get one F grade out if 13 credits…it’s likely to pull your GPA down significantly.

I agree…a W is better than an F. Drop the course.

You have put off facing the problem too long already- Monday morning first thing phone your advisor, your Dean, the registrar- keep phoning until you get a human. Make it clear that you have been trying to solve the access problems and that you can’t meet the deadline. Apologize for it being the last minute. Ask for the withdrawal.

I don’t know you, but when I have had to do similar things it has felt awful before doing it- and such a relief after. You have to push through the awful.

^^^^this 100%. Sometimes the fear of doing it is worse then just doing it. Since you didn’t have the ability to access “they” might let you take it over without penalty, depending on the college. Won’t go into it but my niece was in a situation. After learning about the situation she is being allowed to retake her 3 courses “without” any penalty and to replace her current grade. Life challenged happen to us all. Good Luck and next time communicate right away with your school like day one

But be careful - dropping the class will mean you have fewer than 12 credits, which may make you ineligible for the scholarship anyway.

You need to find out if your eligibility is reviewed after every semester, after every year, if the gpa they are concerned about is your entire record or just that semester.

If your problem is with your mobile device that is not a notebook computer, see if any friends or neighbors could lend you one for a few days. Most students are not using their computers for classes right now. If you have been keeping up with the material, see what you can do to improve access. If your problem is internet access, even setting up a hotspot on a phone or driving on a car to an area outside a school that might have WiFi. Agree that failing the course might mean that you are not making progress as a full time student and could affect scholarship, but maybe a summer semester is different.
