How much can Early Decision help an underqualified student for Newhouse?

Recently, I've been thinking of applying to another Journalism program Early Decision II. However, I don't want to miss out on another choice - so should I apply to Newhouse Newspaper & Digital Media with a 1090/1600? Does it help with hooks (URM, musician)? Or should I settle for another Journalism program that is test optional?

Also, my average is a 3.6 unweighted. I hold 3 positions in Journalism related extracurricular activities.

Hopefully this post also helps others in the future. Thanks for reading.

If you are an international student, SATs are not required. Have you tried taking the ACT? Cuse is holistic in their admissions, but it would really help to be very strong in other areas of the application such as ECs and GPA if standardized test scores a bit low. DD applied ED as a Whitman/Newhouse dual. Her standardized test scores were on the low side, but she had a very strong GPA in all APs and honors and great ECs with several national awards. She is doing wonderfully at Cuse and really loves it!
I would highly suggest applying ED or EDII if SU is clearly your first choice and you do not need to meticulously scrutinize FA packages. I would not apply ED to any school if it were not a clear first choice. DS had a wonderful 4 years at another school and could not make a final decision until mid April of his senior year in high school. the application process my kids were very different and both made the right choice.
Syracuse is a wonderful place and definitely was the best choice for my daughter.
Good luck to you.
