How much can 'first generation' matter??

I have about a 3.8 UC GPA, 27 ACT, 1830 SATI, and SATII's both in like the 600 range.
I founded a community service club, pres of it for 3 years, obtained like 300+ hrs of community service.

Wrote one essay on a weeklong mission trip I did in Mexico during spring break freshmen year.
Wrote the other mainly on my family, mentioning the older brother who unfortunately has a drug addiction, and the fact that my family was still able enough to pay attention to my education and help push me to be the first in the family to go to college.

I have a low GPA, and just okay test scores.

How much do you think they'll take the fact that I'm a first generation college student into account.

I'm kinda worried cause I was afraid to capitalize on my hardships, rather merely mentioned them, because I didn't want to seem like a was fishing for pitty.
Still, think it'll help?

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!
I'M SO SCARED.

But please be honest so I don't feel like dying come Tuesday :/

:( … Bump

First off, calm down. I know its a hard concept! I was freaking out too!!

We have about the same SAT scores. I had a 4.1 GPA. But you have more community service hours then me and you were president of a club. (unlike me)

I’m not entirely sure how much that is taken into account. I was first generation too and I got in. Just calm down, I’m sure you got in with your scores, you seem stable.

chilllllllllllllll

your gpa is only like .1 below the avg. accepted last year so it’s not really that “low”

im sure you’ll get in

Being a first generation student will definitely help (at all colleges), as long as you checked the box or whatever saying you were. Either that or you put your parents’ educations as no college. That combined with your average-ish stats give you a good shot at being in, but it’s never certain. GOOD LUCK! :)
