I was accepted by Oxford and still on the waitlist of Emory. My biggest concern is about the Financial Aid. After a load of documents I painfully sent to the office ( all of them are verification and evidence of how poor my family is), they still sends out new missing information notices (just now). My EFC is 0 and I read about that Oxford has a lot less budget for student aid than Emory College, is there really a big gap between the need and the tuition fees? Thanks for anyone who can give me some information on this... I have to decide in one day and I'm not sure about the financial aid. Or maybe I have to choose Rutgers.

Emory’s financial aid office is EXTREMELY sneaky and unhelpful. They don’t help you at all, as if they expect you not to apply at the end as you get tired of it. However, IF you get financial aid (complete all documents), Emory is pretty generous. According to the info of College Prowl, 50% of Emory students receive grand aid of $20,000.

Same thing happened to me. I did not get my aid package until this Tuesday (after faxing everything in on Thursday of last week). However, my aid package was HUGE from Oxford (waitlisted at Emory). It was $ 44,417 with work study and all grants. I found that Oxford financial aid people were a lot nicer than Emory’s.

vutruc15, i am in a similar situation. where do you look for your financial aid?
there is a link in OPUS but it is not clickable. is that where we check our aid?

^Yes, you check your aid on Opus. It’s under Campus Finances –> View Financial Aid.

Vutruc15, congratulations! Your hard work has been paid off. It seems to me that with $45,000 FA and work-study program, you will practically attend Emory-oxford free.

Do not get discouraged because Emory’s FA process is intimidating. Do everything whatever they tell you to do, and you will get a generous aid.

“inquiry access denied” for me!
I hope I’m not the only one because my to do list has no missing information. How come?

@hahasassy:
Call the Financial Aid office as fast as you can. They will NEVER contact you first, and as time passes by you will get less and less aid.

I have also contacted my regional admissions counselor and he said that they were going to the waistlist next week. I don’t know if they will start contacting next week or starting reviewing next week.

@vutruc 15:
They will probably review all waitlisted applicants (who responded, who did not, what type of students they want more, etc), and start contacting in the following week. But it’d be great if you post this in another thread, as this has nothing to do with OP’s concern.

@Sensation
I saw that OP was waitlisted too so I just wanted to put that info out there.

I’m worried now

vutruc15…OMG…you are a miracle… I faxed them about 20 different documents and my whole family were going crazy filling them… now it’s complete… I’ll wait and pray… thanks…

Sensation…Yep… I called and they said I would expect next Thursday…

@LEE333REAL

I am in the exact same situation right now. I feel your pain… =( So they told you that some students could expect to get their financial aid information by next Thursday or you were talking about the waitlisting thing?

I know a lot of people in your predicament. A friend submitted her deposit even before she knew of her aid (she still doesn’t know). A couple of people on the facebook group can’t view/accept/decline their package so you shouldn’t worry about the situation. They were pretty quick in getting back to me. Just make sure your Emory id is on everything and call to confirm with them that they have received the fax.
