I've taken the ACT twice and got a 25 both times. I'm planning to study about an hour for the rest of the summer and about half an hour during the school year (starts Sep. 2) to prep for the October 26 ACT. I also plan on taking 20(!) full-simulation practice tests.

How much can I expect to improve my score? I'd really like to get to 30+.

Also, does anyone know where you can find real or accurate ACT practice tests? I heard the tests in the red book are accurate and the tests in Kaplan are way too easy. Does that sound right?

Thanks.

Same situation but ill be taking it September to get ready for EA.

what do you mean by book full of practice tests? only 3 tests???

The Red Book (Real ACT Prep Guide) now contains 5 previously administered tests.

There some real tests from previous year and some are not.

It is extremely important to fully understand your personal strenghst and weaknesses and the chances of improving in each section. If not, you are wasting your time. You got to get familiar with the format of each section. However, beyond that, you need to ask yourself a question if you can improve this section or would be better off spending time on improving other(s).
My D. has developed a customized plan. She studied for about 1 hour / day for 5 days right before the test. We do not know if she would get much higher results if she studied longer. however, her result was enough to get into few compatitive programs. She took ACT one time. As she evaluated herself and requirements in each section, she realized that close preparation beyond getting familiar with the format in her case was required only for one section - math. She had specific reasons:
-there is no way she could improve her reading speed which was primary cause of the low predicted score in Verbal
-there was no need to prepare science as there is no science in this section which is basically slower reading section. Predicted high score
-She did not understand how to prepare for English as this section seem to be using primarily common sense. Predicted very high score (was her highest out of all sections)
-her focus was math, one of her strongest subjects. the reason that many overlook is that more advanced kids went thru ACT math material back in middle school and simply need to re-fresh it, they do not remember few facts / formulas. Predicted a higher score.
Her planh has worked exactly as predicted.
Every person should develop a customized plan based on the individual ability level and strategy to pursue. D’s goal of compensating the low Verbal score with the higher Mth score has worked perfectly.

^that’s a good answer
