How much can I improve my SAT in 3 months???

Okay, I'm new to this forum. I've recently decided to apply to US universities (i'm from England) So, I took a SAT practice test off the internet. Without taking into account the minus 0.25 points you get for a wrong answer I scored roughly 650 in maths, 680 in critical reading, 600 in writing. Seeing as I've never done a SAT test, how much do you think I could improve by, if I were to work hard for 3 months or so? Is this a respectable score? I'd like to go to a top 20 uni.

Also, will universities take into account my IB scores. I didn't do nearly as well as I could have (33 points), due to doing no revision. I thought I'd have a better chance at a good american university.

What other factors do they consider? I've heard a lot about extra-curriculars and will be fine for that (apart from leadership bit).

Lastly, how would an english student fit in? Do americans generally like english people? (I know it's a bit of a silly question).

Thanks for any help!!!

That score is not high enough to yield a decent chance at a top school. Plus, you need to account for the wrong-answer deduction.

AP scores have very little effect on admissions, so I can’t imagine that IB scores would matter much, even for an international applicant.

I’m sure that you could fit in. (We tend to like English accents.)

See this for some relevant advice on both admissions and SAT preparation: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtles-guide-sat-admissions-success.html.

I realise it’s not high enough. But seeing as it’s the first time I’ve seen a SAT paper, could I improve. If I get used to the format and learn some of the maths topics e.g. geometry that weren’t covered in IB maths and brush up my grammar, could I improve

The original question was how much could I imrpove with 3 months of hard graft??

Of course you could improve. By how much is an unanswerable question.

What’s an average though??? Do you have an idea, as I’d like to know where I stand.

Thanks

Some people improve by 50 points after preparation; some improve by 500 points. The variation is too extreme to warrant a meaningful average. Just prepare as effectively as you can and hope for the best.

And as far as being English goes, most ladies like the accent which will be a fun thing for you in college ;)

Sweeeeeet!!!
