How much can sending samples of your work help toward getting accepted?

Hello! I'm a college freshman right now and I'm applying as a transfer into a few colleges (Emerson, Ithaca, URI, Suffolk..) and I've already been accepted to Ithaca URI and Suffolk.. just waiting on Emerson.

Now, my stats aren't the highest (2.59 High School GPA, 3.88 College GPA, 1710 Composite SAT), but I sent some really, really strong pieces of writing along with my application. (as well as four really strong letters of recommendation, tons of great extra curricular, and a super essay)

I sent: a vivid poem about life, a one-act play, and a short film I wrote. I've had them all read over by people with English degrees more than one and I even had the play produced.

Now, my question to all of you is.. how much can sending in samples of my work help towards getting accepted into my dream school? (Emerson)

Please, and thank you!

OH, by the way, if this matters, I'm applying there to the Writing, Literature, & Publishing program (creative writing)

any help… please?
