U of I, I’m assuming?

ATMs do, in fact, exist. I never carry any cash around, just my debit card. My bank and the school have some sort of shady deal going on so there’s ATMs all over the place if you need cash in a hurry. I wouldn’t carry any around if I could help it.

Since you have a credit card, you shouldn’t have an issue for the most part. 40’s usually enough but then again-- i’m in new york. you probably won’t need as much

EDIT: 40 for like, going out not in total, lol

lol actually, no. I’m going to a school in Missouri
Yeah, I probably will have to use an ATM anyways, but I just wanted to know if whatever I bring is too much or too little

I’d keep fifty or so on hand, for emergencies, like if a credit card won’t bail you out a situation.

Always have like $10 in singles in case you buy something with a group of friends and need to “chip in” a dollar or two. I’ve had this situation arise several times this summer and it’s just awkward considering I only carry around a debit card.

I like to carry a $20 in my wallet in case of emergencies. I also have a credit card linked to my parents’ account but has my name on it, so that if it’s a really serious issue I can use it without having to call and ask them to wire money.

I usually carry enough for a taxi, lunch, a couple gallons of gas, and/or any other minor emergency. Plastic is good, but nobody turns down cash, at least as some down payment/hold.

I like to keep $25-40 cash even though I have a credit card

Lots, the wallet inspector does his nightly rounds at nine o’clock sharp.

keep 15 dollars cash present for a case of beer

Yeah, definitely carry a few ones on you for little things, like tips or drinks or snacks.

I will say 20 minimum 40 max…PLASTIC IS IN!!

dont carry any thing more than 20. I prefer carrying 10 a 5 and 5 singles

Id say 30 to 40 range is best. Most places that only take cash are usually pretty cheap. Only problem with 20 is that if you pay like 15 and then forget to replace it, then you’re in a hole next time you need money. At least with 30 or 40, if you forget, you still have a little wiggle room in case you’re in a bind.

I usually carried at least 10 in cash, leaning more toward $25 with some singles. Some places have a minimum purchase about before they will let you use plastic (companies are charged to be able to accept credit cards, yanno), but it’s usually around $5.

I did kept a fifty in my room for emergencies, but I wouldn’t carry that much around with me unless I was specifically going shopping or something.

If you’re specifically buying books from students… you’ll probably want however much those books are. I would just go to the ATM before buying them, though.

about $40 bucks is good… i usually have a $20, some $10s and $5s and a couple $1s at all times

OP, how much do you normally carry around in cash when you go out?

I dunno about you guys but I feel naked if I don’t have at least 5 Benjamins protecting me

$10? A hobo carries more cash than that

^ Except I have a debit card that serves the same purpose. Without the risk of theft.
