When I took the SATs in May (for the first time), I got an 1820.
My sections were incredibly inconsistent:
reading-550
math-590
writing-680

If I were to study a lot this summer, how much do you think I could raise my score by?

For the reading section I plan to read a lot of challenging books and memorize lots of vocab. (only sparknoting books in english class has caught up to me.) I have a lot of SAT books I bought for Math. I'll do some slight reviewing for the writing but I'm pretty sure I can easily get in the 700s that section, and I'll work on raising my essay from a 10 to an 11 or 12.

I REALLY want to get ATLEAST 2000+ on my second try. Do you think this is feesible?

How much do you think I can raise my score by?

A 1820 to a 2000 is certainly feasible. Just keep studying out of the BB and you should be right on track for a 200 point increase. Since you did pretty well in writing, try to concentrate a little bit more on math and reading. There’s a decent amount of posts on CC that will help you raise your CR and M scores. Take every practice test possible in your books and make sure you know your vocab. After each practice test, make sure you go over every single answer, and see why that answer is correct (even if you got it right). If you keep doing this, your score will start to raise a little bit. Especially in math, many of the practice test questions appear frequently in the actual SAT (if you use the BB). So good luck, you have a few more months anyways!

That is very encouraging, thank you!

what does “BB” mean?

I agree that you can raise your score, and also remember that scores do fluctuate for no apparent reason sometimes; my CR went down 60 points and writing went up 120 the 2nd time i took the sats, despite having done no preparation or anything different for either of those sections… so sometimes it’s just bizarre.

Also, I wouldn’t spend a great deal of time raising the essay… 10 is very good already and the writing score points gained from improving your essay score would probably be minimal. I missed one multiple choice question but got a 9 essay and I still got a 780. So if you want to improve writing, I would definitely recommend working on multiple choice rather than essay, especially since essays can be so subjectively graded that you often don’t get rewarded for effort spent trying to improve them.

on my first SAT i got an 1830 (i think a 1280/1600, i bombed writing)

raised it to 2120 on my third try

(2020 on my second try)

yanksfan41805, BB = Blue Book, or The Official SAT Study Guide from the College Board. It’s just an abbreviation they use on CC.

Well, depends how much you’ve studied already though I’d think its quite possible. For CR, don’t try to memorize TOO much vocab. Try to interpret the meaning of what the blank should be in context then look for the words. Math score should be easiest to raise. SAT math is pretty simple so if you work hard enough, 800 isn’t impossible for ANYONE.
