I know CC is cheaper for the general education requirements, but did you save any money on the last 2 years of college? Did the debt from attending the 4 year make attending CC in the first place irrelevant?
Unless you score a scholarship to the 4 year attending CC first greatly reduces your debt in the end. If you do everything perfectly and live cheaply you can get out of college with money saved if you work full-time (basically avoiding luxuries, using alternative transportation, living at home, etc.)
I will actually give you a cost estimate of first two years at CC vs university (living at home, and not including transportation, personal expenses and food). Using a local CC we see the annual cost is $3,928 annually, Multiply this by 2 we get $7,856 for two years. We then add $7,856 to the cost of two years at the largest public university in my state (NCSU) which is $9,567 annually using the criteria listed above. $9,567^2= $19,314 added to $7,856 from the CC we get $27,170 for a 4 year education without extra semesters starting at CC vs $38,268 for spending all 4 years at a University. This equates to a savings of $11,098 total. Of course your mileage will vary depending on your unique situations regarding a place to stay and transportation.
