If i go to NYU i'll end up paying 25k a year, so 100k all togehter. what about you guys?

yikes, that's alot. How much of that is in federal loans (stafford/perkins). Did your parents co-sign for private loans in your name? I (the parent) am hesitant to do that. My son has about 6K in federal loans for his freshman year, 30K in scholarship, 3+ in work study (which I don't expect him to even make that amount nor for him to pay for tuition room and board). that $$ will go to him to live. I am insisting my son try for a low cost dorm. I'm figuring on 3600 for a meal plan. So my (mon) out of pocket should be COA -(scholarship + federal loans), around 12K or so.

Personally, ~40k. It'll be paid off within 2-5 years, I'm not worried. Parents are taking care of the rest.

I have 2400 in perkins and 3500 in stafford, the rest is 22000 in the PLUS loan, so it ends up to be around 28

22K in Plus loans PER year.?! Your EFC must have been high. Personally, I would NEVER take out nearly 85+K in plus loans. For one, parents have to start paying them back right away and second, they have a high interest rate. I can't even fathom the payments that plus loan will be, especially in subsequent years.

lol thats the strange part, my efc is 0

My EFC was relatively low as well and we got about 28,000 in PLUS loans per year.. putting NYU out of reach for my parents

dont forget about the ~5% increase in tuition per year.

Yeah, I have like maybe $3k in student loans... I didn't take any out for senior year because I just used what I had left over from my summer internship. I don't remember how much my parents took out in loans, but we had to cover maybe $15k? They don't really want me to pay them back, but I'm sure I'll end up helping out with my sister (she's starting college next year) and definitely my little brother (he's only 2 now!) Oh well, no worries, that's why I became a finance major...

ESSR181, just curious. How do you plan on paying off 40,000 in 4-5 years?

youkosiren-- are you in stern?

well, yes.. you can't be a finance major in any other school at NYU, lol.

i don't even want to think about it, i'll end with like $150k in debt...:(

Lol dodger im in the same boat. 50k per year w/ no scholarships.. nada. so im gonna take a whild guess and say 200k+ in debt? lol. ya the next 10-15 yrs is gonna be fun ^^

i dont know if nyu is worth that kind of debt

i got a 15k scholarship but ~18k in PLUS loans and ~6k in stafford and perkins loans ($24,150 total)... which adds up to a grand total of $96,660 in debt. nice.

$60,000. oh yeah!

with 2400 for Perkins, 3500 for stafford, and 16000 in PLUS, i'll end up with about 87,600... :[
