How much did U$C pay US News rankings for this

National Universities Rankings - Best College - Education - US News

Ridiculous..

You’d be surprised how much money does come into play in the rankings.

“…average spending per full-time-equivalent student on instruction, research, public service, academic support, student services, institutional support, and operations and maintenance (for public institutions only)”

“The average percentage of undergraduate alumni of record who donated money to the college or university.”

“The average faculty pay and benefits are adjusted for regional differences in cost of living.”

[Methodology: Undergraduate Ranking Criteria and Weights - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/best-colleges/2010/08/17/methodology-undergraduate-ranking-criteria-and-weights-2011.html)

$$$Take special note on the second point$$$

All this ranting is futile and pointless. -.-

How much they paid US News? None. They just have a lot of support from endowments.

The US News rankings focus on a lot of factors not as related to academics like financial resources (10%), alumni giving (5%) and faculty resources (20%) which is comprised of things like faculty compensation, class size, and student/faculty ratio. Private schools will naturally have higher marks in these categories simply because they have more support financially. And by financially I mean this in the best way because the more resources you have, the more you can improve.

I’m not mad about the rankings–we’re in a tight spot budget-wise. If you read about UCLA’s endowments, all you’d see is decrease here and decrease there. It’s saddening, really.

We can’t rely on the just government for money. Now it’s all about help from the alumni too. So graduate and give back! Hahaha.

It’s a different story if you wanted to strictly talk about worldwide academic rankings, though. Hint: check out THE QS rankings and their methodology. ;)

Great title.
