Sigh, it seems like I'm gonna end up spending over $200...

Last year I dished out atleast $900.

$200? If only I could limit my spending to that much… Most of the dresses I’ve seen cost at least a hundred more than that. Plus all the hair, makeup, nail appointments, and the limo fee, and pictures, and everything else… ugh. It’s almost enough to make me not want to go.

@cody2010
yea… i can see how that is very possible…
I’m trying to keep the budget reasonable, and yet so expensive…

I planned on spending about $500. I spent about $250 for both me and my date combined.

@leila- You can find good dresses on eBay for WAY less than $100. I got mine for $10. And you don’t need to pay for pictures. Limos are overrated unless you’re going to be drinking.

^
oh yeah. i remember u talking about something like this in another prom thread

$10?? Ahhhh I would love to find a dress for such a price… did you find yours on eBay?

^^ I say it on many when people start griping about how much prom costs. It is a misconception that you need to drop a grand on prom because it’s this amazing experience blah, blah, blah.

@leila- I’m going to PM you.

Trust me, I don’t want to drop this much on prom. It’s just how things are looking.

Absolute Zero.

^ -273.15°C would have looked better.

I thought I’d hate senior prom because I didn’t like junior prom, but it turned out to be an amazing weekend with friends.

That said, it cost quite a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I think it was all worth it. And this is coming from someone who has only been to one “regular” high school dance for lack of interest.

I must’ve gone up to $350-ish, but that’s without paying for the pictures, which I kinda feel bad about now. =/
But I didn’t buy new shoes and I’m happy about that because I didn’t need them and the ones I used didn’t change the experience at all. :)

I spent around $85 for my sophomore prom

$60 on the dress
$17 (I think - not too sure about this) was the cost of the event
$8 to blow dry my hair

Yeah that’s about it. Of course, my “prom” was in India in my school hall so this accounts for the low costs

My grade doesn’t have a prom. Actually, my country does not have prom.
Next year I have a semi-formal dance and the year after that I have a dance and senior year I have a formal graduation dance.

Anyway an average person at my school (single-sex, so you need to find a partner from somewhere else) or a student from my school going to a dance at my brother’s school (also single-sex), would probably spend…
- $40~$250 on the dress, depending on where you looked and what you wanted
- $200 on the tickets (well, for my brother’s school where it was in some fancy gazebo… included dinner and alcoholic beverages, not kidding)
- $100~$200 for the limo if you want a fancy ride, if not, just go in you or your partner’s parents’ car
- There was this ad around my school for a place where you get your hair/make-up done, costs approx $100

Basically, if you wanted the least expensive way possible you would just pay for the cost of the event, dress in your old clothing and get a ride from your parents. But most students will probably not do that.

So far this year it looks like:

$200-Dress, shoes,purse…
$25- Jewelry
$50- hair and makeup supplies
$85- Ticket
$45- Limo

So that’s a little over $400

I spent about an hour planning out Prom (maybe an hour and a half)…and I planned everything from dinner reservations to my own hair appointment (boyfriend didn’t know any good sushi places so I helped him out).
We’re not taking a limo so here are the costs:
Ticket: $45
Dress (on sale, mind you!): $225
Hair: $40
Nails: $40
Boutonniere: $12
Jewelry: $20
Total: $341
We may or may not purchase pictures. Both his and my family are getting pictures already and I have a nice patio to boot so…we’ll see.
I stayed relatively under-budget. I think my date will pay a little less than me in total (dinner all together should be about $40 for the two of us - I was considerate and picked a reasonably less expensive place). All in all it wasn’t too expensive since I’m using jewelry/shoes I already have and my dress was on sale. No after parties for us either.
Have a good time and be safe!

tickets: $24
dinner: $40
new tie: $35

didn’t need to rent tux because i bought one last year for $290 (pants, jacket, and vest) and shoes for $80.

This year I have a date who is refusing to let me pay for anything so…

Hair: $30.00
Dress: $0.50

Yeah, you’re reading that right.

I don’t 100% remember, but here we go.

Dress: $240 (20% off because I donated two dresses to charity!)
Alterations: $35 (the seamstress cut the price in half because she thought little me was paying, not my mother)
Hair: $60
Shoes: $50
Ticket: $40
Purse: $289 plus shipping (on sale from $989!)
Dinner: $15
Shawl: $0! (my friend’s mother lent it to me)
Limo: $40

But I would have had to get my hair done anyway. I wasn’t sure if I should include the purse since it’s my general evening bag and was not bought specifically for prom. But it’s not like I really paid for most of these things. I, of course, bought the purse, but my parents paid for pretty much everything, and just made me give them $60 for the dress, since I had picked out one that was $180 earlier.

Here’s what I spent on prom:

Tuxedo: $110
Dinner: $45
Tickets: $130
Corsage: $40
After-dinner snack: $10

Exlcluding some other stuff, prom cost me over $335, and that was junior prom (didn’t pay for pictures, took those before prom with my friends). It was pricey, but was a really fun night.
