Are colleges really picky about AP test scores, i know they matter but how much when compared to the grade in that class. My history teacher last year told me they matter more than the grade because each school can teach the subject in any manner. Is it imperative that i score 5's on all my AP tests for the ivies (Cornell and UPenn) and other top ranked school.

And in addition would colleges frown upon me not taking AP english 12 next year. Currently I am signed up for
AP English 12 (Literature)
MG Multivariable Calculus (semester)-Unique class offered at my School, weighted like an AP (Math and Science Academy)
MG Differential Equations (semester)-Same as above
MG Human Anatomy (semester)-Same as above
MG Physiology (semester)-Same as above
AP Statistics
AP US Government
AP Psychology- Might drop and keep Art
AP Studio Art 2-D- Might drop and keep Psych.

Would the other courses i am taking make up for my lack of AP English (Literature) 12, i would take Honors English 12 in its place. And i am taking AP english Composition this year.

wow if that is true then that is somewhat of a relief. I was freaking out thinking that i need to get four 5’s this year on my 4 ap’s. But if colleges don’t even look at the test grade then i can be free of mind with that worry and just worry about getting A’s in those classes.

AP scores are important for after you are admitted to determine if you will get college credit and many require a 5 or at worst a 4 in a subject to get it. As for admission, no college requires or even requests AP scores and if you want them to know what they are you just self-report on the app or in an essay but there is no requirement that you do so. An exception: a few colleges will allow you to submit AP scores in lieu of SAT or SAT II scores if you feel like using AP scores rather than the SAT scores for admission.

There are DEFINITELY colleges that look towards AP scores as a factor in the admissions process. As a specific source, UC Berkeley states so on a brochure I got from them at a college fair.
