How much do APs REALLY matter?

...in terms of getting in to college?

I'm not asking about placing out of classes, which I am not concerned about. I mean, when colleges are looking at your application, how much does your score on AP exams matter?

How life-determining are these life-suckers?

There are tons of these thread around. Might wanna use the search feature and try and find them, K?

AP test scores are never a formal requirement for college admission, and taking this or that brand of challenging high school course (AP or IB or college in the schools or whatever) is simply evidence of a student willing to take on challenges with some readiness for college-level studies. Report what is true about yourself, after you choose a challenging high school curriculum.

Yeah. I didn't do so hot on my AP's last year and when I applied to UNC-Chapel Hill they had a section that "somewhat strongly requested" you to send in AP scores. I freaked out over it because I figured it would look bad not to report them. But I didn't report them anyways.

But I got in anyways. Same holds true with some of my other friends. One of my friends submitted two 3's for his exams (which would get him no credit anyways) and he still got in too.
I don't really think it matters that much. I think it's only crucial if the admission officers believe you're on the border or can't decide between you or someone else and in that case it could come down to the matter of AP scores.

At least that's what I think.

The simple answer:

Taking an AP and doing well in it matters the most. AP Tests not so much unless you want credit.

I think half of it comes from getting the credit and the other half is just a sense of accomplishment and feeling that you owned a collegeboard test!

wow really =.=

COLLEGES dont' look at scores when deciding admission. but once you are admitted, then if you passed you get credit
