How much do athletic achievements help?

Hello, I am currently working on my application for RD to Cornell CAS. I was poking around the cross country website on Cornell, and looked through some times, etc. Based on what I saw, I feel that I would be one of the faster guys on the team if I attended. If I talked to the coach and discussed the matter, and he agreed with my assessment, how much exactly would it help my admission chances if I am more or less a typical applicant. To help, I suppose I will give a brief synopsis of my resume.

GPA: 4.05 weighted, not sure unweighted. Something like 3.7
SAT: 2050; Math: 740, Critical Reading: 700, Writing: 610 (retaking for the writing)
ACT: 29

Achievements/ECs etc.
-1st place in regional fair in category biochemistry
-Best of fair in regional fair
-International science fair finalist
-Developed science bee to raise money for impoverished students in India. 50,000> raised
-AP scholar with distinction (not a big deal but whatever)

I've been called by a few d1 schools, but not too many major ones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Daiviko - being a recruited athlete can help significantly with admissions. At this point, you’re a little late in the process, so if you want to contact the coach you should do that as quickly as possible. Just e-mail him, giving him both your times for XC and track as well as your academic credentials. If he’s interested, he may ask you to come for an official visit - by now, many of those invitations have already been made, so that’s why it’s important that you pursue this quickly if you’re interested. You may want to repost this on the Athletic Recruit forum under the College Admissions forum - there are lots of experienced parents of athletes there and lots of valuable information about athletic recruiting in the Ivy’s. Good luck!

Thank you so much, Runners2. I know I am a little late. The problem is that I physically developed a little late, thereby hampering my talent in distance running from being exposed until just recently. I will definitely get in contact with the coaches!
