i'm from the class of 08.. i'm a junior right now and unfortunately, i'm getting my first C this semester... i have an overall gpa of about 3.64 this semester i'm getting 5 A's and one C.. how much will this hurt me? i'm concerned about the effects on my admissions to colleges and my parents are just as concerned if not more than i am.

this C was in ap english... but i'm not majoring in english that's for sure.

A single C won't kill your chances for admission. But you definitely got one in one of the worst subjects to get one in at the worst possible time.

People have gotten into top schools with a C before. I remember reading a topic on the MIT discussion board where more than one CCer said they got into MIT with a sole C on their transcript in English.

Well if your transcript only reflects final grades, then you'll probably be OK unless you got a B- (or lower =/) for the first semester.
If they do show semester grades, then that's not a good thing.

Depends on the school.
Caltech couldn't care less about your english grades, as long as you passed.
MIT/other engineering schools won't be as lenient as Caltech, but they'll give you some leeway.

One C won't hurt you at most non-Ivies. The fact that you are getting all As except for it would cover it up. Where are you thinking about applying to?

aiyo... i'm applying to most UC's (i'm a so cal resident)
i'm gonna go for a couple claremont colleges because i like it there!
(CMC and Scripps)

besides that.. my mom is making me apply to yale.. which i don't really want to do.. (frikkin impossible)

and that's all the schools i have so far.. i'm still looking into some schools that are out of state and within my reach. ahhaha like syracuse.

i sort of want to go to a LAC b/c i'm not sure enough about my major, so i wouldn't mind the liberal arts setting

also... i have a lot of EC's and leadership that i will most surely sing out in my application or interview.. those things i worked very hard for and have strong passsions for.
