great, a lot less expensive, authentic designer handbags- MARSHALL’S!!!
plus, they have alot of polos.
and hollister and abercrombie clothes may look exactly the same, but hollister is less expensive and just as cool

^
because abercrombie owns hollister!!
=) haha felt like saying that

maybe its the schools I have seen, but to class kids wear polo/laccoste/vineyard vines and some AE…but other than that it is “cool” (for guys) not to wear brand names. Kids who were Abercrombie and Fitch tend to get some jokes headed there way…mostly people do not where brand name stuff outside of class. Girls usually go all out and its popular for them, but for guys its usually better to just look good and like you don’t care. Nylon shorts and a regular t-shirt or cargo shorts/plaid shorts and the same. Wearing designer jeans, while not looked down upon is not the norm. There are a fair share of preps who always dress preppy, but I would say most just look nice. Also my advice DO NOT wear underwear–boxer briefs or boxers and if you don’t play sports working out is always a good thing.

My advice is be very social from day one…that ends up being most peoples regret later on.

I’m definitely going to have to go on a huge shopping spree soon…

My son wanted boxers in 7th grade when he got embarrassed in gym class when undressing. He noticed everyone else in boxers. They are not that expensive at Target or Walmart. Just buy 3-4 pairs and wear them the days you have sports or PE.
I liked the advice of the earlier poster who said wear them the first week of school and then once you have friends you can wear what you want.
I also like the suggestion of the person who said buy a few name-brands and then wear whatever. T-shirts can be any cheap brand at Walmart which is plain. I do recall my older son asking me to buy ‘white tshirts with writing on them’ when he was in boarding school.
Old Navy has stuff that is cheaper than American Eagle.

I read about a kid who was given $200 to buy clothes. He bought 2 prs of pants and a couple of shirts–all from Abercrombie and Fitch–and he just washed and wore the same clothes all the time.
Polo shirts are popular and you can get them from JC Penneys or Target for about $10 each and no one will be the wiser.
Get a job at Gap as soon as you can, or some other department store when you are 16, and buy clothes then.
But you know, boys have it easier. Boys are by nature a bit (or a lot, depending on the boy) uncaring about their appearance, in general, and so this will help you.
I also liked the advice to be really friendly. If you have good social skills, you will be fine. My husband graduated from a top 15 university, he came from the south, he wore ‘high water’ (means he outgrew them) polyester pants (a print–can’t you just imagine how he looked!) but he was well respected because he was so thoughtful and friendly and had GREAT social skills. He was funny as can be. No one cared about his clothes. He was obviously going places (he wound up a physician) and his friendliness and disinterest in clothes was obvious to all and he had a lot of friends.
Hope some of this gives you some perspective. Study hard for your future.

Actually, at this time, American Eagle has huge discount. I got polo shirts (solid color, no prints but eagle logo on chest) in grey, green, white and navy, was only US$9.94 last week (also with 15% coupon since I’m a return customer).
Fleece active shorts (I will use it as a dorm shorts, they are so comfortable!) US$9.94 also, navy, gray, dark green and white. No prints only eagle logo.
I don’t purchase any brand name expensive jeans, as long as it fit me and comfortable, that’s enough. I will wait after July 4th, the big sales!

From an old hippy here: Why in the world do you want to give free
advertising to any corporation? I’m embarrassed for you.

i luv american eagle all-access pass coupons!

One word… UNIFORMS!!!
I’m lucky that I go to an all girls school that requires uniforms, but you wanted to know the coolest thing to wear, no matter who you are. Confidence. Now, there is totally a difference between egotistical and confident but if you master the confident look, it won’t matter what you are wearing.

Does anyone know if the Exeter laundry service irons clothes as well as wash them? I don’t really want to iron my clothes, but if i must…

Hahaha…funny kmfansi. No worries though, I see your logic there! I’m also wondering (in regards to Exeter’s laundry service), if you aren’t paying for it, are you still allowed to use it on special occasions (ie a dress for formal) and just pay for a one-time thing, etc.?

kmfansi, they do iron, and shirts come back on hangers, so you don’t need to iron them yourself. sball12, to my knowledge you either sign up for the year or can’t use it, but, of course, you can just walk to the dry cleaners if you need a one-time thing (10-minute walk from campus).

kmfansi…wow, I wish my son cared about wrinkles. He wouldn’t iron if he was paid to do so.

When I went to the school im going to this fall, miss hall’s…i actually noticed a lack of preppy clothes…of course there was some but the girls actually worshiped individuality and unique outfits (of course your not allowed to wear jeans so it kinda forces you to be creative). mostly i saw a scene/ bright colors/ cute and interesting outfit theme…stuff you would find at a store like delias, charlotte russe…or forever 21.

I noticed something interesting at almost of the schools I toured. All of the students walking around and in classes looked like J Crew/Ralph Lauren models except all of my tour guides had really unique, creative senses of style and even the guys weren’t wearing polo shirts or khakis or sweaters, unlike the majority of their peers. Maybe it was coincidental or maybe it did reflect the quality of those who give tours… Anybody else notice this?

2 of the 3 schools i went to for interveiws were in the middle of “dress down day” when i was there,
so everyone was wearing sweat pants or old jeans,
lol.
but the school that had their normal dresscode in effect had a lot of variation in style.
like my tour guide had this weird layered dresses over tights with these very, uh, different boots on,
but it was still cute oddly enough
lol

As long as you look well, clean, guys, it honestly doesn’t matter. Kids at BSs usually do tend to look well put-together, but you can achieve that look by shopping almost anywhere.

yeah well what everyone else has been saying. J Crew, LL Bean, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, North Face, Vineyard Vines are all very popular at SPS. theres not alot of hollister or abercrombie. Also during the winter LL Bean boots and UGGs are popular. At SPS if your a girl, rainboots are essential.

vineyard vines?

at my visits i saw vinyard vines and lacoste definately the most.
