Hey,
I was wondering how much do colleges care between taking the AP CompSci A test or taking the AP CompSci AB Test. Like what would look better on an application, a 5 on the A exam or a 4/3 on an AB Test. Thanks in adavnce

A 5 on the A exam.

4 on AB will be better than 5 on A exam..

3 isnt good on any exam..
It ruins your chances for National AP scholar..

othewise no college would reject u cause you took the easier AP exam..

I agree with variance2004 that a 3 isn't that great.

However, I don't understand why would a 4 on the AB exam be better than a perfect score. A perfect score on any cb test is something remarkable to include on your college applications and resume. Furthermore, a lot of the really prestigous colleges, including harvard and mit, will not grant college credit for a 3/4 in most subject areas, not all. But they usually grant credit for a 5. Therefore, a 5 on the A exam is better. I understand that taking the AB exam will show colleges that you have challenged yourself. However, if Citeruid isn't sure that he can excel on the AB test, then I, personally, don't think that he should take it. Challenging yourself is great, but excelling is even better.

Actually, if you look at the MIT website, they don't grant credit for any of the AP Comp Sci Tests. The AP CompSci test is a walk in the park if you program at home for fun(yours truly).

Go to an actual college course. They will blow you away(at least good ones) with the kinda stuff they do. This crap on syntax error detection, and basic tree structure ain't gonna cut it.

Go for AB. MIT states that they look for those who aren't afraid of failing. You will do good. Just study.

VToodler: Excelling is nothing when out of context. I could go back to 4th grade, and come on national tv as the the 9 year old who is taking Calc BC, Physics B and Comp Sci AB.

If a college rejects you because you challeged yourself(and worked hard - very important!) then maybe that isn't a place you should be looking at.

AP Comp Sci isn't really that hard of a course if you think about it.

The programming that is taught is basics and not that useful when you need to use it.
(Programming competitions... I did poorly because all I knew was what I learned from AP Comp Sci...which I'm pretty good at)
So I would say a 5 on AB would look best... but 4 on AB would be better than 5 on A because A is so much easier than AB.

At least AB contains data structures, nodes, tree structures, etc.

A is just some elementary programming.

Go for AB

Michael_Pham is correct. I cannot stress how much practical experiance pwns bookwork. It is like trying to perform surgery by reading a book only. Or chemistry, w/o the labs. I mean, ***???
