How much do GCSE's matter

I dont think I did really brilliantly on my GCSE's so if I got mostly B's, how will they be viewed when looking at my application. Will it matter that much if I do brilliantly on my A Levels

They would be viewed with quite importance since O level courses cover grade 9 to 10.
However they are not more important than A levels and since the last 2 years are of more import and you show definite signs of improvement than its fine. Also along with your results your school transcripts that contain your school exam grades GPA class ranking etc is going to be evaluated which I guess is MORE important than your exam results.

What schools are you applying to? I won’t hide it from you but B’s and C’s will hit hard if its Ivies or the top tier schools but if rest of your application is stellar or you got a pretty good reason why you got B’s and C’s then it probably won’t matter much.

Its not Ivy league colleges, I wanted to apply to University of Washington. Would it improve my chance if I retook some of the gcses and aim for A’s.

Yup of course
Make sure you get A in the subject that’s closest to the major you want to study
For example if you plan on engineering make sure you retake phy and math to get A’s in them…Best of luck :)
