Apple does have an educational discount, but it only pertains to college students or university/k-12 faculty members. Have you looked into refurbished models? You can buy directly from Apple, and they’re almost always in excellent shape. A one-year warranty and extended Applecare is also available so you’re still protected in case anything happens. I’ve seen the price lowered about $100 for refurbished Macbooks. A new Macbook will cost $999+

A new white MacBook retails for $999. With an educational discount, you can get it for $949. If you don’t mind a “refurbished” label, it’s common to find refurbished MacBooks for $849 from the special deals store.

If you’re a high school junior, then you can’t get the discount. Just wait one year. By then, Snow Leopard will probably be out, and the entire MacBook line should be refreshed.

Snow Leopard will be around how much?

Are you serious…? You are a high school junior, only a year and a half away from college, but you have to come to an internet forum to ask a simple question that could be very easily answered by going to Apple . Wow.

CarterOwl, Snow Leopard will be free, assuming you buy a Macbook after it’s out.

I bought a MacBook Pro three years ago as a refurbished model. It’s awesome and it still works like new. I’m hoping to keep it for another 2+ years. Snow Leopard won’t cost you more than $130 or so to upgrade but I’m not sure whether the upgrade would be worth it. Things don’t change much from one Mac OS version to the next.
