<p>You always go to these admissions meetings and they claim that they look at applications holistically and that SAT scores are not the most important part of admissions. What I want to know is how much SAT scores really matter.</p>

Student 1 scores about 50 points higher student 2.
Student 2 has slightly better grades and ECs.
Which student is more admissible?</p>
<p>I think some schools set a certain cutoff score, and all scores above that point go on to be considered for admission, and all scores below aren’t. Of course they would still thoroughly look through the apps with low scores, and of course a few are admitted. But you see so many 2400s rejected from HYP.</p>
<p>So if both students meet the threshold I give the edge to student 2.</p>
<p>So what would you say the cutoff point is for the most competative colleges?</p>
<p>Haha my “hypothetical situation” is actually my own situation (which you have probably already realized). I’m talking about the difference between a 1510/2310 and 1590/2330.</p>
