How much do you enjoy studying?

I've always been curious as to how other students at Berkeley felt about studying. I've heard answers varying from "I hate studying and I'm just doing it to get a job" to "I love studying and want to be a professor." Obviously it differs on the context, the difficulty of the major, and the person.

I actually really do like learning and going to class (especially political science and the biological sciences). But I wouldn't say I like studying any more or any less than any other activity I do. For example, I like studying as much as I like watching T.V, playing video games, playing sports ect. I'm not a nerd in the sense that I ONLY study, but I definitely like to do so. Studying isn't a burden for me- It's just another activity down the road that I enjoy doing,

I love to learn for my own sake (even if there is no practical value). But I also make sure to manage a social life.

How do you guys feel?

i don’t particularly enjoy studying but i do enjoy getting A’s. so i do it anyways. :(

I love studying major-related things.

I HATE studying.
If it’s a subject I really enjoy, I like going to class and don’t really mind the assigned readings.
But seriously, I usually have to gather up a lot of energy just to sit down to study. It’s a nightmare.

For me it really depends on how much I’m interested in the topic. I like studying for humanities subjects like anthropology and religion, and studying these with others is fun. I don’t really like studying math, especially memorizing formulas and methods.

Studying is a chore for me. it takes a great deal of energy and when i finally start i pause for a moment to recover - i get distracted very easily. after i read a paragraph from my readings, i go to my computer and look up stuff or watch tv. i’d say for every paragraph i read, i do 20 min of procrastination.

sometimes when im at the library or starbucks, i like to people watch and often wonder how some people can be so focused.

It depends on the topic, but I try to enjoy the subject and really get into it. In other words, I enjoyed almost every single class I have taken in Berkeley no matter what grades I got. (ranging from A to C, not just A’s and A-'s)

I also enjoy getting A’s, but after getting so many lousy grades, I shifted my focus to just enjoying/learning the material. But more importantly, if I find the material not as interesting as other topics I am learning or have learned, then that means I am one stop closer to what I like and what I don’t like, which I think it’s much more important than getting 3.9 in your college year and realize 5 years later that you don’t like what you’re doing.

But I might just be a whiner since I don’t ace classes even though I have the mindset to enjoy and learn; blame it on my lack of intelligence.

To answer OP’s question; yes, I really do love studying.

absolutely 0%

i like learning.
i don’t like studying.

learn for fun
study for A’s

I’m kind of like you OP, I like studying as much as most other activities.

I definitely derive more fun more watching TV, etc but when I study I feel like I’m doing something useful so that good feeling kind of compensates for the less fun. I regard going to the gym similarly… the activity itself is not super fun but it makes me feel good about my body and health so that’s why I like doing it.

Good thread idea btw.

what’s studying

I’m 100% with crowslayer91.

I do not like it very much. It mostly depends on how much I have to do and the effort…I know that’s a simple idea, but its true.

Just going over notes is easy and fine to do, but doing problems and reading hundreds of pages is difficult for me.

If I really enjoy my classes (e.g. Astro C10, Soc 101, UGBA 10) then it’s a tolerable activity. If I really dislike the class, then it’s a chore, but I put myself through it just to see those "A"s on my transcript.

Writing papers is the hardest part, because it involves the computer, and when anything involves the computer…

I have hated studying now since I have studied for one subject for too long. I would like to study for different subjects for different interests rather than one subject which getting more and more boring and harder and harder…

I really like studying things I’m interested in, I could care less about things I’m not interested in.

i don’t enjoy studying, but i do enjoy getting ****ed on midterms/finals. so, it all works out perfectly.
