Hi, I was wondering how much you need to score on the SSATs to get into schools like Exeter?

Don't even try if that is your way of getting into Harvard or Yale. You can get in just by going to a public high school. Chillax.

Actually, I disagree. I think bright students are sometimes overlooked at public schools that would stand out appropriately at a prep school like Andover or Exeter. Not to mention I believe you probably get a stronger education. If your family has the money to spend, by all means give it a shot.

Or just go to a regular private school.

you really have to be in the 95th+ percentile.....but there's more to it, it's very tough to get into andover and exeter

my friend got into exeter with quite low ssat scores, but he holds lots of academic records in the school. he is also either rank 1 or 2 out of 200 in my school. anyway what i am getting at is ssat scores is not everything. if you are an excellent student with good potential the adcom there will realize it. i doubt this is very different to college admissions though...

Yikes...I got rejected from Exeter and am going to Baylor instead...Good school, too. I believe I can work my way out in either school...

P.S.: Exeter's student never stop studying. It's hard to have fun there.....The administration is very conservative.

Hi.

I'm going to Exeter next year (as a new 9th grader) and I had a 94 percentile overall SSAT.

The SSAT definitly isn't everything.

The essays and the interview is what makes it or breaks it. If you come across as a dynamic, hard-working kid with lots of initiative, then I'd say you have a good chance.

Good luck!!

it's true. go for the best school you can, take the hardest courses if you can, and stand out among the best if you possibly can. Otherwise, it is much harder, albeit definitely not impossible because you can stand out extracurricularly among the best as well. School reputations ARE looked at

Both schools are incredible and offer things most never dream of in high school. Go if you have the desire and your parents will support you. I agree that for the unhooked, above 95% is necessary. Average at Andover is 95% which includes the hooked and is just a little lower at Exeter.

both schools look past numbers. i got in with 90 overall, 66 on verbal.

Andover and Exeter(especially Andover) admit largely by statistics, at least by reputation; hence the Exeter stereotype of being very nerdy and the Andover stereotype of having no personality. While they still recruit some athletes and talents, most are academic admits with high grades/test scores. With class sizes that large, they can't really afford to look into each applicant's personal character as much as hotchkiss, deerfield, and st. pauls do. I think 85-90% overall usually makes you a competitive candidate for the top boarding schools, given you also have good grades. I got wl at Andover and accepted to Exeter with around an 85% overall, a few years ago.

As a person that was accepted to Andover + Exeter, I agree with AceRockolla's statement that have a 85-90 % overall SSAT puts you into the running.

I'm curious what you all offered. I can only speak for Andover, but the average is 95% on the SSAT. I'm starting to think half the school must have 99%!

Hello, I’m new on CC so, I’m sorry If I’m posting this in the wrong place, but I was wondering if these scores would be good enough to get into andover (or exeter). I am applying for the 10th grade.

I got a 85% on the SSATs with 66% on Verbal, 83% on Math and 91% on Reading.

I go to a private school outside of the US, I am half Middle Eastern, half European,
and have pretty good credentials.

My grade averages are all well above 85, 85% being the lowest, and being in biology. My school does not use the block system, it uses the IB style and also grades on a basis of 1-7.

I speak five languages, play 3 sports (volleyball, basketball, and soccer) competitively and a few others normally (Tennis, Climbing, Sailing)

I also do Drama and Debating, and I am pretty good at drawing and arts.
I do not play an instrument, although I sing.

Plus I did two years of student government, although that was last year and the year before that.

Also, I’m not applying for financial aid.

thank you :D

marmotte, This thread was created about five years ago. These people are in college now, I think. It looks like you have a good chance, though.
